Every smart head needs protection. But not every head needs ballistic protection. Team Wendy is now entering the market of "Base Jump" helmets – previously dominated by Protec and Ops-Core. The US manufacturer of quality helmet liners first introduced its carbon EXFIL helmet, followed by the Lightweight Tactical Polymer (LTP) with a plastic shell, which we present to you today.
The EXFIL™ LTP from Team Wendy helmet is easily recognizable by its slightly "angular" shape. It contours to the head and creates a slim profile. It features its own rail system and an integrated night vision mount from Wilcox on the front. Velcro is also strategically placed where needed. Especially notable is the strap system and the interior design of the EXFIL™ LTP.
Let's take a closer look inside. The LTP goes back to the pads (left) and is thus double-layered. The thicker layer in brown, and the thinner black layer for precise adjustment.
Even with the straps, Team Wendy takes a very good approach: the adjusters (top right) can be locked so that they do not shift on their own. The chin buckle (bottom right) is stable and closes "crisply."
The pads consist of strips, with the black layer removed here. This gives the helmet a very good fit, as it can be adjusted to have contact with the head on all sides, eliminating any play. This system contrasts with the few pads that an Ops-Core helmet, for example, has inside. But even the Crye AirFrame has pads and only Ops-Core straps.
The strapping system can be tightened around the head. Team Wendy has a slightly different solution than competitor Ops-Core. Thin wires padded at the sides of the head can be tightened and loosened at the back of the head with this spindle. It opens and closes by pulling and pushing. This is also a very good and durable solution that we really like.
On the front of the helmet is a mounting point for attaching a night vision device. The shroud itself is made of plastic but has a metal interior part from Wilcox. This can accommodate the standard GI Rhino plate, onto which various accessories can be screwed, such as a Wilcox Rhino Arm in this case. ANVIS would also fit.
The helmet comes with a small accessory box. It includes two MOE rails with screws and NVG bungees for attaching to the helmet. If you don't need these, simply leave them off. This minimalist approach focuses on essential functionalities.
Not everything needs to be reinvented. In that sense, the two rail pieces from Magpul are a good addition. For example, if you want to mount a light on the side, simply screw them on, perhaps only on one side. The appropriate screws are included, which are just over 2 millimeters longer than those used to close the rail holes. The rail is much more low-profile than Ops-Core's. It also has Peltor adapters and can clip oxygen masks at the bottom rear. The rail is more flexible since the slots can accommodate various screws to attach things to the helmet.
The bungees are simply knotted, secured with a zip tie, inserted into the upper rail, pulled to the front, and clipped with a clamp, which can be hooked onto the night vision device (may not fit all types). If the bungees are not needed because there is currently no night vision device to secure, the two straps can be hooked together in the front center of the helmet under the NVG mount. They won't be in the way there.
The bungee cord for securing the counterweight at the back of the helmet is also included. Here you can also see the ventilation slots on the helmet and the rear Velcro area.
CONCLUSION: Team Wendy has its own approach to helmets that we really like. The solutions are minimalist and practical. The EXFIL™ LTP is a very practical head protection system that allows for the attachment of light, Comtacs, and night vision device to the helmet. It provides protection from injury as well. The interior of Team Wendy is particularly remarkable for its comfort. The minimalist rail system is also highly appealing. Helmet covers designed for Ops-Core helmets fit perfectly on the EXFIL™ LTP.
The Team Wendy EXFIL™ LTP is currently available in America directly from Team Wendy for $299.95. The Team Wendy range will soon be available in Germany at HQG.de.
The helmet comes with accessories in the box and a black transport bag.
