REVIEW: TASMANIAN TIGER Tool Pack ZP

The Breacher opens doors, usually not gently. To create passageways, good, heavy tools are needed, which of course need to be securely stored. This is where TASMANIAN TIGER comes into play with the new Tool Pack ZP. Find out from us what you can expect from this specialized Zip-On Panel.

One immediately notices that everything is sewn very sturdily and zippers are additionally secured with press studs. Why is this important? Because crowbars, bolt cutters, and sledgehammers are heavy and therefore the accompanying gear must be correspondingly sturdy.

The TASMANIAN TIGER Tool Pack ZP in its natural environment. When unfolded, it measures approximately 35 x 23 x 9 cm.

Main Compartment - Bolt Cutter Compartment

If you're wondering about the wording "unfolded," the two compartments of the Tool Packs ZP can each be extended downward by a good 16cm.

This is necessary in case the bolt cutter is a bit longer. This one is 78 cm long.

Thanks to the design of the Tool Packs ZP, it still fits well. The bolt cutter is completely inside the Tool Pack ZP and the handles extend up to head height.

Front Compartment

In the front compartment, the bottom can even be completely opened. This allows space for the long handles of the opening tools. Axe and hammer feel at home here.

The bottom extension is stored behind a zipper in the front compartment.

The bottom itself can be further opened thanks to a Velcro strip.

To keep the tools with handles secure in the Tool Pack ZP, two stiffened, velcro-fastened tube holders are included.

Thanks to enough Velcro surface, these can be used in both the front compartment and the rear bolt cutter compartment.

This is how the sledgehammer, the Halligan Tool, or an ax are securely held and remain ready for use at all times.

More Details

On the side, there are some rubber loops for medium-sized pry bars. Well held and quick to hand.

Also the perfect place for breacher pens.

By the way, we then opted for the 63 cm long bolt cutter, as only the rubberized handles protrude from the TASMANIAN TIGER Tool Pack ZP.

For perfect grip on the back and to prevent anything from wobbling around, there are a total of four compression straps. These are equipped with a G-hook and can be unhooked, which is immensely helpful when loading up.

MOLLE/PALS is a must nowadays, so also on the Tool Pack ZP. You have four columns of eight laser-cut slots available. In the middle, there are also two additional slots. Three Velcro strips are also present for various patches. You can never have enough patches.

Attachment System

The attachment of the Tool Pack ZP is quite simple, but not necessarily suitable for quick changes in the field.

First, the two plastic tabs must be inserted into the MOLLE/PALS loops in the upper area.

To achieve optimal support, the Hypalon straps must be attached to the plate carrier with snap buttons.

And finally, close both zippers. Now the Tool Pack ZP holds tight and is ready to be loaded with a good 10 kg or even more.

The great thing about the Tool Pack ZP is that it comes with zipper adapters. These are simply looped onto the plate carrier of your choice, giving you the right interface without having to spend extra money.

The zippers are compatible with those from CRYE, so the Tool Pack ZP fits all plate carriers that support this "standard". In the picture, you can see the Tool Pack ZP on an AVS by CRYE PRECISION.

But he's also at home in Bavaria. Here on a LINDNERHOF TAKTIK LT 042/2 plate carrier. Fits perfectly as well.

CONCLUSION: The new TASMANIAN TIGER Tool Pack ZP is a very specialized backpack for a very specific task. We find this Zip Panel very well designed and thought out. The heavy tools hold excellently in it, and there is no need to worry about losing anything. We also really like that the Tool Pack ZP comes with MOLLE to zipper adapters, so you can really use it on all plate carriers with MOLLE/PALS on the back. Additionally, the price is really good.
