Hey, who's that coming? Is it Santa Claus? - No, unfortunately not yet, but good gear is always a celebration for us. And that at any time of the year. Our "Santa" was the mailman and he brought us the new plate carrier directly and exclusively from Tasmanian Tiger. This time it is small, light, and closes (and opens) quickly. Or in full name: Tasmanian Tiger Plate Carrier QR LC. The last four letters stand for "Quick Release" and "Laser Cut." Does that say it all? Actually yes, but we will introduce the plate carrier to you in detail here.
There he is, the PC QR LC. The guy carries the plates. And he shows - even in the front view - how quickly the wheel turns at Tasmanian Tiger.
"Quick Release - who needs it?" That's the title of an article on SPARTANAT 2016. At that time, First Spear had just introduced the Tubes to quickly close plate carriers and avoid Velcro. Lindnerhof quickly followed suit with their own quick-release model. At the moment, it's the new ROC closures from Italy that are becoming popular among various manufacturers, including Tasmanian Tiger. This means no more annoying ratcheting at the stomach, no squeezing to lift the belly pouch, but simply opening with one pull using the ROC closure.
It also goes "click" on the shoulder, everything is open. The plate carrier can be set down - or dropped in an emergency. Threading and closing is a matter of practice. A few tries and it works blindly. So, for easier opening in military life, the quick drop on the battlefield is added. Super practical.
The small plate carrier still has a lot to offer. Here is the perfectly crafted shoulder area.
TT pads well and the mesh is velcroed under the shoulder straps. At the same time, it is a cable tunnel, and two additional flexible strips help you organize everything that runs from back to front over the shoulder.
The shoulder straps without additional padding also feature MOLLE strips to attach items.
We love it when manufacturers think ahead. The Velcro strap over the shoulder is sewn so that you can easily cut it with scissors without it unraveling. This way, the plate carrier can be made to fit any body size.
Frontally, the PC QR LC has Velcro on the chest. You need that for the patches, what else.
Behind it is a small admin pouch, secured with Velcro, where loops keep the essentials in place.
Laser-cut MOLLE everywhere you look. That's why he's called LC, the PC QR LC. Here we also see the quick release attached. And below four rows of Velcro that make us curious. Yes, you can attach classic bags here and configure your plate carrier quickly.
Or you can attach additional closures to the MOLLE at the top and attach a Chest Rig with Velcro. This has the advantage that the equipment can be removed at any time, even if the plate carrier remains on. Well thought out!
On the right and left, there are two pockets for radios or magazines, which the wearer can detach if not needed. Otherwise, they are integrated with the cummerbund.
Here you can see a small pocket directly on the body, hidden by the ROC closure. The standard cummerbund comes with an AirLite variant, which allows lots of air circulation but can also be expanded with pockets.
