Fully packed with beautiful things that make life more beautiful. Except when you have to carry them on your back. If you do, then you need a correspondingly large backpack. The new TASMANIAN TIGER Base Pack 75 offers you just that.
The Base Pack 75 is the bigger brother of the Base Pack 52 – HERE in REVIEW. Compared to the Base Pack 52, the Base Pack 75 is two MOLLE columns wider on the side and one MOLLE column wider on the front. In height, it is about 5 cm taller. On the entire outside, you will find MOLLE/PALS loops to attach additional bags or equipment.
The Tasmanian Tiger Base Pack 75 measures approximately 77 x 33 x 26 cm and weighs a good 3 kg when empty. Not lightweight, but stable. It offers you around 75 liters of pack volume, which can be expanded to up to 90 liters. The volume adjustment is done through the roll-top opening or the snow skirt.
The adjustable V2-Plus system serves as the carrying system, as we already know and appreciate from some other large backpacks from Tasmanian Tiger.
The well-padded hip belt distributes the load well to the hips. It has been well thought out and a redirection is installed, so you don't have to pull backwards, but forwards. This is much easier and more comfortable under full load.
The hip belt is really thickly padded and not detachable.
A chest strap should never be missing, not even in the Base Pack 75.
The backpack is equipped with a frame, which is partially installed inside the main compartment, but also outside.
The Base Pack 75 is equipped with a removable lid. On the inside, you will find a zippered compartment, which is obviously intended for the first aid kit. Thanks to sufficiently long straps, the lid can also be adjusted in height.
The Base Pack is a classic top loader with a roll closure. The buckles look a bit different than normal. They are a kind of hybrid, half male half female, in terms of buckle terminology.
You can also use the included straps. With these, you can span the ends down on the sides. This makes the Base Pack 75 slimmer if you are not using the lid.
There is also access to the main compartment or a sleeping bag compartment at the bottom.
A Carinthia Tropen fits easily and thicker sleeping bags with a tarp also fit in without any problems.
This part is separated from the main compartment by a zippered intermediate floor and can be easily opened when you need the full length of the interior.
The main compartment itself is rather unspectacular. In the middle at the top there is a Velcro loop and eyelet for the hydration bladder, on the back a slip pocket, and on both sides a MOLLE hook-and-loop strip for some interior organization. Simple but effective.
A nice detail is that two "pole holders" are included. These can be used to secure poles or ice picks and similar elongated items on the outside.
CONCLUSION: The Base Pack 75 is for those who carry a lot of equipment. Whether in the woods, on the mountain, or in the city, with its up to 90 liters, the Base Pack 75 is the mothership on your back. Here you can really fit everything and still carry it well.
The Base Pack 75 from Tasmanian Tiger is available from 360 Euros in Olive, Coyote Brown, Black, and Stone Gray/RAL 7013 (IR Safe) at all retailers that carry TASMANIAN TIGER.
