REVIEW: Suunto Clipper Compass

05/03/2017By Redaktion

Orientation is half the battle. And GPS is not always the answer to all challenges in the great outdoors, on the contrary. The compass remains classic and must be at hand. The Suunto Clipper is the ideal measure for this - always there as a backup. Here we have attached it to the watch band. The name says it all: the Clipper is actually a clip with a compass on it. Thread the strap through, the hooks make sure it stays where it is. And the Suunto Clipper has almost everything the big ones have. The arrow points clearly north, the degrees and the cardinal directions are also marked on the rotating bezel.

Here he fits perfectly. We have attached the Suunto Clipper to the laser-cut MOLLE openings of a small Tasmanian Tiger Tac Pack 22 - HERE in the review. The width is precisely measured so that the Clipper sits. It would of course also be good on the MOLLE of a plate carrier.
Now on the watch band of Suunto, which is ironically too wide for it. Just about one to two millimeters, so that the Clipper cannot close. The compass is pushed on, but if it gets a push from behind that causes the band to slip out, it's gone ... So be careful with the dear little compass.
The Suunto in action: you can do almost everything with it that a bigger one does. For example, set a marching pace. Or set off after a marching pace. You must not hold it too slanted, otherwise the needle will skew and not align. A small plastic arrow on the edge of the case helps with sighting. The 150 degrees here are not exactly clicked where the arrow is.

And it also works at night ...

CONCLUSION: It is small, it helps to improvise. For this, it is a good piece of equipment that helps to find the way. And it looks cool, especially on the watch.

You can get the Suunto Clipper compass from 12.90 euros from all retailers carrying Suunto.
