Whether it storms or snows, you need good functional clothing that keeps you dry. That's half the fun when you have to be outside in bad weather. Of course, it's better if such a jacket doesn't stand out in the service operations of the ÖBH. Steinadler Military Supplies offers a good solution here. We'll tell you what you can expect from the wet weather gear. The entire wet weather gear is in RAL 7013 stone gray and consists of a 3-layer ASX membrane material. Here, intentionally, no product from a well-known company was used in order to pass on the price advantage directly to the customer. We used the gear in snowfall and three days of heavy continuous rain and stayed nice and dry. No wonder, given the features of this jacket and pants.
Jacket
Here is the back view, which admittedly presents itself very unspectacularly. The interior is also Spartan, which we naturally like. Apart from the obligatory material and care label, there are only adjustments for waist and hem width. The perfectly glued seams in the inner lining of the wet weather jacket are visible.
There are two zippered pockets on the chest. The left pocket has the rank loop attached. At hip height, there are two velcro-closed pockets. Up to this point, the jacket is identical to the one provided for duty. The big difference is the ventilation openings with two-way zippers under the armpits, which are essential for such jackets to keep the climate inside pleasant when moving. Additionally, on the upper arms, there is a velcro area for unit patches and a name tape on the right chest.
We especially liked the roll-up hood. When the rain comes horizontally, you can reduce the field of view to a minimum. Very nice on the hood is the moldable visor like a baseball cap, which keeps the water off your face. The hood can be easily adjusted to the head using a cord at the back. When not needed, it can be rolled up into a stand-up collar, held in place by snaps.
Pants
There are no improvements in the pants compared to the one provided for duty, as it already fulfills all requirements. It must be said in advance that the cut of the current tranche is a bit tight, so it is better to buy one size larger than usual. This will be remedied in the upcoming tranches.
The pants are equipped with fixed suspenders and reach far up over the cross. Since they are designed as overpants, there is a two-way zipper on both sides over the entire length of the legs, which facilitates putting them on over boots and provides access to the pants underneath and their pocket contents. The waistband is adjusted by a simple band, and the leg closure is adjusted with a velcro and buckle closure.
CONCLUSION: Those looking for wet weather gear with very good value for money will find more than they bargained for here. The jacket and pants are very well thought out, and the material fulfills its purpose very well. The only drawback is the current size, or rather tightness of the pants, which is a small issue, but no problem in procurement: just take one size up.
