REVIEW: S&S Precision Pocket Shiv

09/27/2014By Redaktion

We know, size doesn't matter. But size is also a matter of relation. There's no need to have false hopes here. This is a small pumpkin, a very small one indeed. That's why the Pocket Shiv from S&S Precision, which you can get in Germany at GEARMANIACS, looks so big.

Somehow this blade reminds us of the chief's sword from Asterix. Just modernly interpreted. It measures nearly 6.5 centimeters long and the blade is Full Tang. No, that's not a blood groove on the blade, just a guide for inserting it into the sheath. The sheath holds the Pocket Shiv and can be worn as a "neck knife" by tying a cord around it, and it also comes with a MOLLE adapter. You can easily see scratch marks on the sheath of the Pocket Shiv, probably because it's made of a very soft polymer.

The sheath seen from behind and the MOLLE adapter disassembled into its two parts. The Pocket Shiv compared to a thumbnail. The cutting tool emerged out of the necessity that everyone at S&S Precision needed something to cut with. So they designed this thing.

The MOLLE adapter in use. You can see that the knife exactly fits the length of two MOLLE loops. It fits well on the armor, but it's not a deadly weapon in the field. If a package arrives from home, then the Pocket Shiv would be the right choice.

The packaging of the Pocket Shiv jokes by showing how to assemble the Shiv as a spear, a shoelace tip, and a mobile blade, but also mentions that it shouldn't be taken too seriously...

CONCLUSION: Understandable. Because the Pocket Shiv is a small package cutter with a great design. Stylish, easy to grip. Maybe a bit small. Overall very nice, but a bit expensive. S&S Precision, after all.

You can get the S&S Precision Pocket Shiv in Germany at GEARMANIACS for Euro 34.90.
