Nothing is as sharp as the blade of the mind. This responsibility falls to Pallas Athene, the Greek goddess of wisdom. Now steel is also not bad when it comes to sharpness. With Pallas, the friends of Spartan Blades USA have released an excellent folder, available in Germany at G-GEAR.
What immediately stands out about the Spartan Blades Pallas is the fast opening and closing.
The blade is flicked open on ball bearings by the flipper mechanism and is unlocked and folds in by pressing the button (it is not an automatic knife!). This allows incredibly fast and secure handling even in moments of highest tension.
The button for blade unlocking can be operated with thick gloves without risk of injury, unlike most frame or liner locks. Although a rather large folder with over 22 cm total and over 9 cm blade length, the Pallas also fits easily in smaller hands. In many details, it is apparent that Curtis Iovito has been guided by his military experience in the planning of the flipper and has placed great value on facilitating work with gloves.
The powder metallurgical blade steel S35VN leaves nothing to be desired in terms of sharpness, cutting performance, corrosion resistance, and edge retention. The knife's body is made of 6061 aluminum, which has been hard anodized to make the material and surface more resistant (similar to the process used for an AR handguard).
The aluminum scales make the Pallas a very lightweight - hardly noticeable in the pocket - folder that can be used both in everyday life and in the field. Hardware (opening pin, screws, and spacers) are made of corrosion-resistant steel. The titanium clip holds the knife tip up and is not reversible.
