REVIEW: SMITH DISCORD ELITE Sunglasses/Protective eyewear

Protecting your eyesight without standing out? We have something from Smith Optics to offer: The Discord Elite glasses, featured in today's SPARTANAT Review.

Here's what you'll get: A hard case in rectangular form, glasses cloth/transport bag, and the glasses themselves. The Discord comes with regular lenses for a fair price, but if you want better lens performance, you can opt for various Chromapop lenses.

What is Chromapop? It's Smith Optics' proprietary polarization technology. In essence, such a lens enables high contrast vision even in backlight or reflections such as car windows or water reflections. You can find a more detailed explanation here: What is Chromapop?

The Discord has a complete polymer frame, tailored to the shape of the head. Moreover, it is shockproof.

In the nose area and on the temples, you'll find a rubber-like material (Hydrophil) to prevent slipping and sweat buildup.

The sides feature a simple SMITH logo print.

The lenses are impact-resistant and meet ANSI Z87.1 and MIL-PRF-31013 Clause 3.5.1.1. We've already tested how well the lenses withstand impact with the Aegis Echo (HERE in the SPARTANAT Review) - suitable for military use.

Of course, we also have protection against UVA/B/C rays, which almost goes without saying.

The fit is Medium/Large - slightly smaller than the Oakley Shocktube (HERE in the review) and approximately equal to the ESS CDI MAX (HERE in the review).

The Discord Elite does not have the option to change lenses like the two glasses mentioned above can: It is simply a sunglass with protective function.

We've been wearing the Discord Elite since the Shot Show 2018 and are thoroughly impressed. The low weight and good fit make the glasses unobtrusive. The high contrast of the Discord allows for use even in less favorable weather conditions, when it's simply too bright or on bright summer days.

CONCLUSION: Smith Optics' Discord Elite is a fantastic shooting and sunglasses with excellent lenses. If you prefer high-contrast and dark lenses, the Discord is a must-have.
