REVIEW: Revision Exoshield

01/07/2013By Redaktion

Especially flat on the face and completely protecting the eyes. These were the specifications from which the Exoshield by Revision was created. Provided by Gear Maniacs, we have been given these protective glasses to see how they hold up. Originally intended as eye protection for skydiving, they are popular among special forces due to their extremely flat profile.

In fact, these things consist of three parts: the lens and a strap on the right and left sides (if you count the length adjustments and the foam padding of the goggles: 6 parts). Particularly comfortable with the Exoshield: the seamless wear and the foam seal keep the dust out. The flat shape is also advantageous when using night vision goggles (the glasses come in smoke - dark for the day and in a clear version, which is probably better for night).

The straps that hold the Exoshield on the head are velcroed behind the head. This takes some getting used to, as do the length adjustments located on the right and left sides of the glasses. They bothered us at first, but you quickly get used to them. You can also attach the Exoshield to Velcro on the helmet or to the goggle mounts on the rails of an OpsCore FAST.

What you get for your money: the Exoshield with a protective sleeve that can be pulled over the glasses to prevent scratching, but more importantly, to prevent glare when worn on a helmet. Not shown in the picture is the case in which the Exoshield can be stored to prevent damage. One should not be afraid that the glasses are fragile, even though they may look like it: the High-Impact system surpasses ANSI Z87.1-2010, EN 166, and US military ballistic requirements for eyewear (MIL-PRF-31013, Section 3.5.1.1) and goggles (MIL-DTL-43511D, Section 3.5.10). It also has UV A-B-C protection.

CONCLUSION: A very sleek pair of glasses that fit excellently and also look extremely cool. However, the closed form and tight design come at a price: with the Exoshield, you definitely need an anti-fog solution applied before use. We were so fogged up after transitioning from sub-zero temperatures to a warm living room that we couldn't see anything. But those who use an anti-fog solution or don't stop too quickly after a sweaty workout will have a great pair of glasses.

The Revison Exoshield is available in Smoke and Clear versions at Gear Maniacs for 49.90 euros (excluding shipping).

Here is a video from Revision themselves about the development of these glasses.
