Weapon maintenance, care, and cleaning are topics that are often forgotten in daily handling of the toy. We have tested some products from Real Avid for you, which specialize in these exact topics. Part 1 of our series shows you the multitools AR15 Tool and the Gun Tool Max.

Multitools are available from a wide variety of manufacturers. The market is currently dominated by Leatherman, Gerber, and SOG. Also, Victorinox should not be forgotten, along with whatever else is out there. We were introduced to the company Real Avid at IWA 2018, many thanks to the company SWISSLOXX at this point!

To put it briefly: Real Avid has multitools in its product line, but while other manufacturers offer tools for a wide range of tasks, Real Avid specializes in the maintenance, upkeep, and care of firearms.

The AR15 Tool from Real Avid is a specialized tool for the AR15 platform. Here, you will find tools and helpers that are specifically tailored to this platform. In addition to the rest, the tool also has a needle-nose pliers with an interchangeable cutter.

Here you can see all the tools unfolded. Not much, one might think, compared to other tools on the market. But that's the catch - these tools are precisely the tools you are always looking for bundled into one multitool.

Here is a list of all the parts and tools included in the AR15 Tool. The AR15 Tool is constructed from a stainless steel frame and equipped with G10 handle scales, making the design extremely solid and hefty. This translates to weight, bringing the tool to just under 400 grams (398 grams measured).

For cutting, a blued Tanto blade with serrations made of 440C steel is used. The blade is 8.2cm long and can be opened single-handedly by pin, with locking via a liner lock.

A foldable and also lockable screwdriver can be used either fully or half folded (see video). The corresponding BITS (12 pieces in total) are secured in the bit holder and on the pocket.

Here are both tools and their pouches. It can be attached with MOLLE, but can also be carried on the belt. The AR15 Tool pouch at the back (Coyote) also comes with a small side compartment containing the Frontsight Tool for an A1/A2 post.

A detachable hook and punch help disassemble the AR15. Here, the hook is used to disassemble the Bolt Carrier Group.

The ingenious serrated edge in the tool is designed so that every part of the bolt can be scraped clean of dirt. If that's not enough, there is also a flat scraper and file in the tool.

Even the small teeth are easily cleaned with the tool.

One of the simplest and most valuable tools on the AR15 Tool is the Bolt Override Tool.

What is a Bolt Override? When a cartridge/case gets stuck above the bolt and below the gas tube, it is called a "Bolt Override." It is no longer possible to pull the bolt back with the Charging Handle. There are a few ways to fix this issue, but the most effective is: Insert a lever and use it to pull the bolt back. This is where the Bolt Override Tool comes in, allowing you to quickly, cleanly, and finger-friendly fix the problem.

Continuing with the Gun Tool Max. This multitool is very similar to the AR15 Tool - we have identical dimensions and almost identical weight (395 grams). This tool is a general tool for long and short firearms, so you will also find some tools from the AR15 Tool here:

So, the bit holder with a few different bits (again, a total of 12), the hook and punch, and the pliers are the same.

The pouch of this tool comes in black, and you will find the bits under the flap.

Here it's slightly less tactical. A silver drop point blade (also 8.2cm) without serrations is built in as a cutting tool.
