REVIEW: RE Factor Dead Man's Shooting Deck

RE Factor Tactical makes intelligent targets, called IQ Targets. These are available for both pistols and rifles, but the targets are only as intelligent as you are. For those who find the Number Drill getting boring over time, the guys at RE Factor have also come up with something called the Dead Man's Shooting Deck. We tried it out.

The Dead Man's Shooting Deck consists of 52 cards, a classic deck from Deuce to Ace in all four card suits. Each card has a shooting instruction printed on it. You choose the distance to the target yourself. Of course, you can also use the cards for regular games, making it a "multi-use" item.

Here we have the new IQ Target Pistol hung up. Very colorful.

Each target field has a diameter of 7.5cm or 3 inches. For most cards, you can choose the distance to the target yourself. In our case, the minimum distance set by the shooting range was six meters.

So we shuffled the deck and revealed the first card. Alright, two shots on each field with an even number, we should be able to do that.

Or maybe not. We even missed a field. Or shot way off target. Your brain really has to work during the various shooting exercises. A welcome change from the typical shooting routine.

Once again, a nine from the Dead Man's Shooting Deck is revealed. Another relatively complex task. So identify targets, recognize numbers, and count. All while trying to hit them. Let's see how this goes.

We'll spare you the results of the previous card and instead show you the target at the end of the range session. In short: our trigger behavior is far from optimal, but practice makes perfect. We have a lot of work ahead, as the deck will see a lot of use.

CONCLUSION: The Dead Man's Shooting Deck is a great idea to improve your shooting skills. The IQ Target is also a clear asset for learning to shoot better. We definitely need more practice. Practice makes perfect.

You can get the Dead Man's Shooting Deck directly from RE Factor Tactical for $19.99. The IQ Targets are also available there, starting at $2.50 per piece, 100 pieces for $0.68 each.
