REVIEW: Ratnik VKBO 1st Layer Summer Underwear

The Russian army is in the process of transitioning their soldiers to the infantry of the Russian future, and we are gearing up. "Ratnik" translates to "warrior" in German and it doesn't come without underwear. We want to introduce you to the new Ratnik sets and we start - with underwear. Here is Level 1, the summer underwear.

VKBO stands for the new "basic equipment for all seasons" (Vsesezonnyj Komplect Polevogo Obmundirovanijya, sometimes also VKPO). Closest to the body is simply the underwear. The summer set consists of a t-shirt and shorts.

Starting from the top: The collar is round and fairly high.

The sleeves are, compared to Western shirts, rather long and go almost to the elbow joint.

However, the undershirt is cut high in the armpit. The combination is peculiar but good, there is no issue of sleeves riding up.

The material is 100% polyester, without flame retardant properties. The Russians recommend not drying it near open flames, also not ironing it. However, it should be washed twice a week. Who wants comrades or comrades who stink ... Otherwise, it is functional underwear that performs its function splendidly. Sweat is transported away from the body, the set dries quickly.

The underpants are made of the same material.

In terms of cut, it lies between boxers and briefs. The material is more reminiscent of the latter, while the cut itself is more like the former.

The fly is like a Napoleon pocket, quick and practical. Sometimes you need to act fast...

CONCLUSION: Functional underwear, similar to what you would find with Western brand manufacturers, excellent quality at an unbeatable price. We will treat ourselves to two sets. We find it interesting that the whole thing is quite similar to the American PCU Level 1. As we will see later, Russia has been inspired by excellent, Russian solutions, as we will see later on.
