REVIEW: Propper Combat Shirt in A-TACS

03/03/2012By Redaktion

A-TACS is dirty! At least that's what we think when we look at this camouflage pattern. It's like oil on a canvas bag - and there's also a bit of Star Wars in there ... In the picture, you can see the Combat Shirt from Propper in A-TACS. Today, we want to take a closer look at it.

Looking at it from the back, the shirt looks just as unspectacular as it does from the front at first glance. But why should it be spectacular, most of it will be covered by a plate carrier anyway. The main body is made of cotton and polyester and can best be described as a "thin sweatshirt." The shoulders are overlaid with a normal BDU ripstop fabric to prevent chafing from straps. Additionally, it can be padded, giving it a bit of a 1990s shoulder pad look, but it will be comfortable. There is a Velcro strip on the back of the collar for attaching a name tape.

Now, onto the sleeves, which are also made of BDU ripstop fabric. The cuffs can be adjusted in size with a Velcro closure. A special feature is the incorporation of functional fabric in the form of a cuff that can also be pulled over the thumb. It camouflages the palm of the hand and keeps it warm. There is a pocket for inserting padding on each elbow.

The sleeves are covered with pockets. On the right sleeve end, there are two pockets, one to be filled from the side with a zipper, and the other to be filled from the top, secured with Velcro. On the left sleeve, a similar setup, but with a pen pocket. This pocket-on-pocket construction makes the shirt feel a bit stiff and bulky. There is a large zipper pocket with Velcro patches on both upper arms.

CONCLUSION: A very well thought out and good Combat Shirt. The sleeve endings are very playful for tactical clothing. The Propper Combat Shirt is very comfortable to wear under a plate carrier. And with A-TACS, you are well camouflaged in arid areas. Overall, we also like the slightly futuristic look. There's a little bit of Star Wars in there...

The Propper Combat Shirt is available at Sniper-AS for €89.90 (excluding shipping).
