Nothing is as rough as reality. It doesn't matter when you have both boots firmly planted in life. But it can be very bad if you end up on your hands, which is why you also need good tactical gloves. Outdoor Research (OR) is actually a high-end outdoor company from the USA, which – like many in the industry – has a military branch. We tried out the OR Asset Gloves for you, which are available in Germany at HCS Soldatenausrüstung.
The Asset comes in a solid Coyote Brown color and mimics a full leather glove for use. Of course, synthetic leather is used, as usual, but this does not detract from the quality. The palm and fingers are made of leather, with stretchable spandex material over the back of the hand. The glove is not very long, meaning it stops about two centimeters above the wrist.
Inside, the grip is like leather, reinforced on the palm. Very comfortable to wear, with a breathable feel. Particularly interesting are the fingertips of those three fingers used for ordering beer. Here you can see fine silicone applied. This means that when field communication switches to the phone (smartphone), you can swipe here without having to take off the glove. Still, the glove has a good grip on the rope.
Externally, it is well reinforced with flexible plastic parts as impact protection. Not overly armored, but enough to provide excellent protection when up against the rough reality.
CONCLUSION: Outdoor Research provides somewhat of the luxury cars among tactical gloves. Therefore, the Asset Glove is an excellent handwear that you will be fully satisfied with. Greatly crafted, somewhat higher in price. But especially with OR, it holds true: you get what you pay for.
You can get the Outdoor Research Asset Glove at HCS Soldatenausrüstung for 59.90 euros.
