REVIEW: Ops-Core FAST Carbon Helmet

02/04/2012By Redaktion

Special Operation Forces around the world seem to love the Ops-Core FAST Helmet. The good one comes in three versions. The Base Jump - the cheapest option, to put it simply, we have already introduced here in the REVIEW. The basic features of the Ops-Core FAST Carbon Helmet match the Base Jump: straps, rail function, etc.. Therefore, SPARTANAT will only explain in this review what is different about the FAST Carbon.

Top view of the Carbon: visually, you can recognize it by the ventilation holes in the shell. They are oval and do not have a deep structure like the Base Jump, because the carbon shell is very thin.

The Velcro is also different: with the Base Jump, only Velcro in flag size is glued on the right and left, the Carbon has an additional bar (with cut-out holes) and a small arc of Velcro, as if you should attach a Manta Strobe. In terms of weight, there is no real difference between the two helmets: the Carbon has 682 grams in the M/L shell (with rail), the Base Jump 630 grams.

Carbon frontal: with the FAST Base Jump, the NVG Mount is molded with the shell. The FAST Carbon has - like the Ballistic - the VAS Shroud from Ops-Core.

Inside view: you can recognize the Carbon here by its graphite color and the special structure that carbon, as an extremely light and strong material, has. In the helmet's interior, you can see the Ops-Core logo and the helmet size indicated. The straps are the classic ones from Ops Core themselves, the best helmet straps we know.

CONCLUSION: An excellent helmet at a hefty price. The very light shell with ventilation holes makes the FAST Carbon a great training helmet without ballistic protection.

You can get the Ops-Core FAST Carbon Helmet directly from Ops-Core for $593.
