Baldr is divine. Actually, it is a variant of the name Balder, who among the Asen was the god of the sun, pure light, spring, good, and justice. Well, pure light is definitely the Olight PL-2RL BALDR. For those who like it strong: 1200 lumens. And on top of that, there is also a laser on the laser-light combo from Olight, available at 365+ Tactical. We tested the weapon light for you.
No, that's not us. But there the technical data for Baldr are nicely summarized. 1200 lumens with two CR123A (or equivalent batteries) for two hours. With the beam, you can reach up to 235 meters. The searchlight for the pistol in a sense. However, the mode can be reduced. And the laser is also included.
The laser-light combo mounted on a Glock 19, field tested on the shooting range.
Counter shot from the other side.
This is the weapon light removed. At the front, a small bar is screwed in, typical for the Glock rail. There is also a second exchange bar, but it wasn't included with our Baldr, maybe because it is for 1911s, which are more common in the USA.
That's the energy that the Olight operates with. Two CR123A batteries go in, or the equivalent in batteries, which is worth it if you plan to use the light frequently. The end cap has a very solid closure that can be opened with one hand.
The locking on the weapon is achieved with this closure. Everything stays secure and firmly in place. The laser-light combo shows no signs of being affected by shooting and remains where it should be.
Front view, Baldr shining. The laser at the top, the light at the bottom.
The advantage of the visible laser is that the shooter can focus on the target. Once sighted in, where the point is, is where the bullet will go. The pointer is reliable.
There is a switch on the laser that can be easily adjusted. In the first position, the shooter decides against the laser and only the light works. In the second position, light and laser shine together. And of course, the laser can also be used on its own, with the light remaining off.
Since the invention of the LED, weapon lights have gained extreme power. 1200 lumens are cool for outdoor purposes, but can blind the shooter indoors. 400 lumens are sufficient.
Here you can see the entire control area. A button on the right and left, and a switch on the laser. It somehow looks familiar to us, but more on that later. On the weapon: the switches function perfectly. The only thing we notice is that for people with short fingers, Olight has not taken advantage of the opportunity to go a few crucial millimeters further back. This would be the first difference that a shooter would notice when using an Olight after using a Surefire flashlight.
