REVIEW: Oakley SI Boots

06/08/2013By Redaktion

Footwear is known to be one of the most important pieces of equipment, and accordingly, the selection is large. We at SPARTAN-AT have taken a closer look at the lightweight Oakley SI Assault Boot 8 Inch for you:

The Oakley shoes are equipped with a Vibram sole, which provides a good compromise between cushioning, grip, and flexibility. The profile gives a certain slip resistance, but in mud, on wet moss-covered stones, or on ice, you slip just as much as with other shoes. The structure of the sole, however, makes cleaning after a day in the dirt a bit cumbersome.

The rest of the shoe is partly leather, partly fabric, with no Goretex or similar, so it can get damp when stepping into water. However, the water also drains fairly quickly, so we don't see a problem in normal temperatures. The shoe is pleasantly lightweight to wear, but thanks to the shaft, it provides sufficient lateral support for non-alpine terrain. To ensure the shoe's suitability for parachute jumps, the SI Assault Boot has a lace-free lacing system.

CONCLUSION: A good lightweight shoe that excels in temperatures above freezing and outside of high mountains. The durability has been good so far, but shoes with glued soles are not made to last forever anyway.

You can buy the Oakley SI Assault Boot 8 inch for example for EUR 185 at the Oakley Store.
