Today we want to offer you a small versus review. It's about a classic helmet accessory, the 3 Hole Norotos Shroud. Read on to see how the copies stack up against the genuine item (all images clickable).
Now in the picture you can see all three, the unpainted one is the original. On the left, the Chinese clone, on the right, the G&P copy. At first glance, they all look the same, apart from the color of course, which is good. They all serve the same purpose, a NVG arm can be attached to them. The original is the most stable, followed by the G&P, and the Chinese part comes in third. This was tested with a real TATM and a Rhinoarm with a G&P adapter plate. It's easy to see that G&P did not copy the Norotos logo. All have a metal mounting part and a plastic body.
Even the back can please - or something like that. There are hardly any differences on the back, only the quality of the silver metal stem varies in the same gradient as mentioned above.
Most interesting are the weights. The original weighs only 65g with screws, G&P follows closely with 69g. The heaviest at 92g without screws is the Chinese clone.
The surfaces of the shrouds are also very different. The G&P is rough but matte in its unpainted state. The Chinese part is smooth and slightly glossy. The original is matte and smooth, it looks visually as if it is rubberized, but that's deceptive.
CONCLUSION: The original is the best, but also the most expensive item of the three. The advantage of the Chinese clone is its low price, while G&P scores with the inclusion of an adapter plate for a Rhinoarm.
Available on Ebay are all three. Chinese clone for $30, G&P for $70, and the genuine one for $100
