Clothing and equipment in Flecktarn are mostly only available from German producers, so we tested the IDZ Einsatzhose von NfD for you. The first thing that comes to mind is, "looks similar to the Crye pants." Find out if this domestic product can compete with the Americans here:
The knee protectors were not included, so we tried our Cryes right away. They fit perfectly, nothing slips or wobbles. Unlike the Crye pants, you can adjust the height of the protectors not in the thigh pockets, but in the pants pocket directly below the belt line. This has the advantage that if you use a Drop-Leg platform, there is nothing on the leg straps that can cause pressure points.
The correct fit of the knee protectors is very important for combat pants. We wrote to the guys at Ranger Shop the US size (34 Long) and accordingly got a size L pants. As you can see, the length fits, the knee protectors sit nicely when kneeling! However, the pants would be too wide at the hips without a belt. This shows the much smaller market for the product, as only the standard sizes M, L, or XL are available. We have long wondered what to attach to the MOLLE loops. The only thing we finally came up with was a tourniquet or chem lights, we would refrain from heavier items.
On the side of the thigh, as with almost all military pants, there is a large pocket. It is closed with two buttons, which has the advantage, compared to Velcro, that you can almost open it silently. There are no internal loops for water bottles like with the Crye G3.
The back pocket, like the one on the front of the thigh, has a Velcro closure, the former only on the outside, so you don't feel it (the Velcro) when sitting on a hard surface. Like all good combat pants, the NfD IDZ also has a stretch insert at the back so that the belt doesn't noticeably shift through movements.
At the knee, as with the Crye pants, there is the option to tighten the leg with Velcro. There is also a small Velcro-closed pocket on the lower leg. The leg closure is also adjustable (with Velcro). The quality of the pants is convincing, all seams are neatly executed, and the material makes a good impression. The fabric is not really heavy and not waterproof, so it is advisable to wear appropriate upper or under clothing in case of heavier exposure to the elements.
CONCLUSION: The NfD IDZ combathose is very good legwear in Flecktarn, which is of no lesser quality than Crye's and has a few small but fine differences. The only possible drawback could be the limited size selection, which means that compromises in fit must be made for body dimensions that deviate from the standard.
The NfD IDZ Hose is available exclusively at Ranger Shop for EUR 150
