Where there is much shadow, there must be much light hidden. This wise saying comes from the Chinese philosopher Laotse from the 6th century BC. And since humans do not like to be in the dark, NEXTORCH thought to brighten our lives with a new product from their collection. This new tactical and compact LED flashlight was presented at IWA 2023. It is the NEXTORCH TA20. Let's take a closer look at it.
The TA20 comes with a detailed user manual, 16340 Li-Ion battery, USB-C charging cable, and lanyard. The TA20 has an IPX8 standard, meaning it is waterproof up to two meters and can withstand falls from up to two meters.
The TA20 is powered by a rechargeable 16340 Li-Ion battery with a Type-C connection. Alternatively, a CR123A battery can also be used. Red indicates that the battery is charging. Blue indicates that the battery is charged. The maximum charging time is two hours.
The CE-certified 100mm x 30mm (head) compact TA20 weighs 89 grams without, 109 grams with the battery.
In the head of the TA20 is an Osram P9 LED lamp that provides 1000 ANSI lumens in the highest mode with a maximum beam distance of 210 meters.
The lamp head is made of high-strength, matte gray titanium and has nanoceramic balls incorporated as glass breakers on the lens crown of the TA20. Based on personal experience with the NEXTORCH TA30, it can be confirmed that the glass breaker works and the lamp itself does not sustain any damage.
The flashlight has three modes: LOCK – DUTY – TAC. The Tri-Mode operation switches between lock/safety mode, duty setting, and tactical mode by simply rotating the flashlight head.
LOCK is a lock mode of the TA20 that effectively prevents accidental activation of the flashlight.
DUTY is the working mode and is turned on by pressing the TA20 momentarily or permanently. In the ON position, press lightly to change modes: High-Medium-Low-Strobe.
TAC is the tactical mode of the TA20. A brief press is enough to activate the flashlight for momentary light, and strong press activates the strobe.
Thanks to the stainless steel clip, the TA20 can be carried in any pocket or on MOLLE loops of a tactical vest.
To make the use of the TA20 more flexible, optional accessories are available from NEXTORCH such as FR1 Tactical Ring, RM25S Helmet Mount, and V31 Tactical Quick Draw Holster.
The FR1 Ring pre-assembled on the TA20. The assembly is easy and can be done quickly without tools. Unscrew the switch part, attach the FR1 Ring, then screw the switch part back on.
Various techniques for illuminating the operational area with the weapon are possible in joint use.
CONCLUSION: The TA20 from NEXTORCH is a small, fine, and powerful flashlight. It is ideal as an EDC or backup light for tactical use. The operation is simple, the brightness is very good, and the build quality is top-notch. The brightness of 1,000 ANSI lumens, the different modes on the flashlight, and the offered accessories convince the user.
The NEXTORCH TA20 is available here at NEXTORCH Germany and from retailers that offer NEXTORCH products, priced at 99.95 EUR.
