REVIEW: Mora Companion MG

11/22/2015By Redaktion

Simple, simpler, Mora of Sweden. What can one write about this knife when unpacking it? The Mora knives have been well known and extremely popular in the outdoor scene for a long time. Why? Because they are robust, simple, razor-sharp, and dirt cheap. And all Made in Sweden.

The weight is 120 grams, which is of course not much compared to other "tools", but with the Mora, you don't hesitate to take it with you for a "normal" walk in the woods (yes, you can also do that with your girlfriend).

The handle is made of plastic, with most of it additionally rubberized so that the thing doesn't slip out of your hand.

The blade has the classic Scandinavian shape, as one knows from the traditional company Marttiini. The 10.5 cm long cutting edge is razor sharp when unpacked, cleanly deburred, you can't complain. Hopefully the arm hair will grow back soon. The Sandvik 12C27 steel is also a good choice for this knife. It is a successful combination of cutting ability, sharpenability, hardness, and corrosion resistance. A knife for all cases in a manner of speaking. When it comes to the knife's properties, one thing is always very important: keep an eye on the price. We are not talking about a €250 monster here, but about a knife that costs significantly less than €50.

A great advantage of the Moras in practice is that they are very easy to clean. Because it has no holes, slots, paracords, screws, etc., you can quickly rinse it in the stream or under a water pipe and it's clean! Anyone who has ever gutted game will enjoy this.

Okay, the sheath could of course have a bit more to it. It is made of simple plastic and has a belt clip. There isn't much more to say about it, it securely holds the knife in place and has a small thumb ramp (see photo) so you can draw it quickly and one-handed. Excess water drains out through a small hole at the bottom.

Color: Military Green, Black

Material (Blade): Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel

Material (Handle): Rubber

Length (overall): 22.5cm;

Conclusion: The Mora is neither a beauty nor a technical masterpiece. It is simply a solid, simple Swedish knife, a workhorse for bushcraft or to spare the "expensive" ones. You can invest €15 much worse.

Available at the specialty knife store or on amazon.
