We already reported on MD-Textil at the Open House Day and mentioned that we wanted to introduce you to a belt. We had a custom belt made and have been wearing it in everyday life and on the range for a few weeks now. Here is our report.
In addition to the various pre-made belts from MD-Textil, Marcel Doneth also sews belts on request. Since we had the belt made directly after the Open House Day, we were able to have an influence on its creation and the selection of materials.
When it came to choosing the color, we learned something: Genuine Coyote Brown does not exist with the breaking strength of a typical Riggers belt of 2,700 KG. However, since we really wanted a belt in this color and the intended use of the belt was more on the range than in a helicopter, a less strong webbing was chosen. This is a 38mm wide polyamide webbing, which is also used in the FANCY Belt from MD-Textil, which is explicitly declared as a trouser belt.
The AustriAlpin buckle was also chosen in Coyote Brown and slightly smaller than the regular buckles, so that it matches the belt and fits through the belt loops of tactical pants.
The belt was supposed to consist of two parts, so that it could be fully equipped with holster and magazine pouches - an inner belt and an outer belt. There are two different options: the inner belt is sewn with hook-and-loop on the outside, and the outer belt with hook-and-loop on the inside. This has the advantage that the inner belt can always be worn alone without damaging clothing. However, if you do it the other way around, i.e. the inner belt with hook-and-loop and the outer belt with loop, you can also wear the outer belt alone over a jacket, for example. But that's a matter of preference, and we chose the inner belt with hook-and-loop.
Marcel used 25mm hook-and-loop here, as this width is sufficient to secure the outer belt. A simple D-ring serves as the closure, making it easy to fasten the belt.
The outer belt consists of two layers of 38mm webbing, which are stitched together at the edge. A strip of plastic is inserted into the gap for stiffening. Then the loop is placed and sewn on with binding tape. This has the advantage that nothing frays and the belt is more comfortable to wear because the edge is softer. Finally, the Cobra Buckle is attached, and the Custom Belt is finished. By the way, the seams on the closures are fully automated with a program-controlled sewing machine - so nothing is left to chance when it comes to the security of the seams (and the choice of thread). All other seams are made by hand with the machine.
CONCLUSION: A perfectly crafted belt, made in Germany and exactly to our specifications - it has proven itself so far, and we are not worried that it will let us down.
