Here you can see the LUNOX RNVG in its carrying case, along with the accessories.
The delivery includes:
The lens protection protects the objective lenses of your RNVG from damage. They are simply screwed on. Since the RNVG uses PVS-14 lenses, you can use pretty much any PVS-14 accessories with the RNVG. Very practical.
The LUNOX RNVG weighs around 570 grams with the battery. It is approximately 12 cm long and good 7 cm high. PVS-14 lenses are also used for the eyepiece. The quality of the lenses is very good and you can also find a lot of accessories for them on the market.
It is powered by a single CR123A battery, which fits between the tubes. The battery life is up to 30 hours under optimal conditions.
The RNVG is designed to be worn on the head. Therefore, it has a so-called "dove piece" (center) where you can attach an adapter arm. This arm is then attached to the helmet.
We noticed that due to the design of the housing, not every NVG arm can be used. The newer slim arms from Wilcox and Cadex work perfectly (on the right in the picture). The slightly older ones with a different release mechanism from NOROTOS are unfortunately not compatible.
When you have the RNVG hanging in front of your eyes, you can adjust the interpupillary distance perfectly with the two side adjustment screws. The RNVG is a so-called "fixed binocular" in contrast to the "articulating Binos". We presented examples of the latter with the DTNVS or the PVS 31.
A Fixed Bino is not a disadvantage because fewer moving parts mean a more stable system. Not for nothing does RNVG stand for Ruggedized Night Vision Goggle.
It is turned on with a small lever switch on the left side. You just have to push it down and the RNVG activates. Push it up and it turns off.
If you push the lever a little further down and hold it in that position, you activate the small IR LED. If you let go of the lever, it springs back to the "On" position and the IR LED turns off.
You need this when it's really dark and there is not enough residual light. It's like a small flashlight. The effective luminous range is only about 10 m, but that's perfectly sufficient for indoor use.
On the other side, you will find a dial. This regulates the gain, in layman's terms, the brightness of the image. You have 6 Gain settings available. To save weight and costs, the RNVG does not have automatic Gain control (Autogain), only manual gain control.
The video shows the function of the Gain very well.
The LUNOX RNVG is aimed at people who want to own a binocular but don't want to take out a loan right away, because high-spec Binos can cost as much as a small car. They have achieved this by using the lighter and less expensive 16mm tubes, which compared to the standard 18mm tubes, make no drastic difference for the user, that's you.
These smaller tubes are also slightly lighter than the 18mm tubes. They are available with green and white phosphor, which is why we could play with two LUNOX RNVG. They look the same from the outside, only the image intensifier tube differs inside.
The low-light amplification is impeccable and has a minimum FOM value of 1600, usually significantly higher. With this value, you can see well even in a dark forest without additional IR illumination.
The specifications of the image intensifier tubes of the RNVG are deliberately not high-end to keep the price attractive. Because the tubes are really expensive, and after all, you need two for a binocular.
Further impressions of the tubes can be seen in the video. In general, the smaller tubes make no difference in use. The image is clear, bright, and details are easy to distinguish.
CONCLUSION: The RNVG from LUNOX is an impeccable night vision device. LUNOX offers you binocular night vision at a fair price. We have now been able to test several night vision devices and we must honestly say that the RNVG is not worse than other more expensive binoculars if the image intensifier tubes have roughly the same specifications. It is robust, lightweight, and reliable, and it also gives you the superpower to see in the dark. Nice Price, pimp your nightlife.
You can get the RNVG directly from LUNOX for 6,380 euros (excluding tax).
