REVIEW: LOWA Innox GTX MID TF Multicam

Camouflage is half the battle. So a Multicam shoe - is that necessary? The other half of life, on the other hand, is performance. The attractive camouflage color doesn't necessarily reflect the performance. But it sure looks good, the Innox GTX MID TF variant, Multicam color from LOWA. We took a look at it. A top view. What sets the shoes apart? Well, there's the slip-resistant LOWA NXT rubber sole, supportive frame, and of course a GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort lining to ensure optimal dry climate inside the shoe, especially when it's hot. The use of microfiber upper material has also helped saving weight. So a size 42 shoe weighs only 510 grams. That's light and you almost don't feel it - so to speak.

Here are the shoe's stats from the company:

Upper material: Microfiber 1.3-1.5 mm + textile

Lining: GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort shoes

Sole: LOWA NXT

Construction: cemented, injected

Lacing: closed hook Shaft height inside: 110 mm

Shaft height outside: 145 mm

In the side view, you can see the mentioned cemented and injected construction, which, together with the sole structure and cushioning properties, makes the shoe comfortable and suitable for terrain.

If you want to know what the strange word means: The "cemented construction" is a mixture of gluing and sewing. It requires less manual work, making the technology cheaper. The sole rigidity is less pronounced, allowing for a higher degree of flexion. Many hiking and light hiking shoes are cemented. Of course, leather is also included. A leather strip protects the front from wear, there is no separate stiff gravel protection at the front. So please do not step on the toes!

The back is also reinforced with leather and you can see the injected shapes in plastic for more stability. When you put on the shoe and choose the right size, it fits: you don't have to break it in. Put it on - and you're good to go! Comfortable to wear, light and secure, flexible and sturdy. Ankle-high, it protects against twisting. Although designed for moderate terrain, it can handle more. In the end, it almost feels like wearing a sports shoe. Comfortable, flexible, easy to move in.

We were also able to test the shoe in the last week of summer, with temperatures around 30 degrees. Even then, we didn't create any heat build-up in the shoe. And even during the usual summer storms, we stayed dry inside. The water test. Risk-free - what else. Because the inner Gore-Tex layer is facing upwards, it's easy to cross ankle-high water. In the close-up, you can also see the nice workmanship and rounded, padded ends for comfortable wear. The success of this shoe is also significantly due to the material. W. L. Gore & Associates offers Patrol GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear, a technical solution that meets requirements in hot climates very well. The lightweight, extremely breathable use boot is designed primarily for operations in hot-dry or hot-moist climates, without sacrificing long-lasting waterproofness. The shaft of the shoe has two pairs of eyelets, allowing for easy lacing, but it's different at the bottom. With a lot of dust and dirt, the laces don't slip as easily, but once the wearer has adjusted the tightness and looseness, there's no need to re-lace. A look at the LOWA NXT sole. A nice tread pattern that doesn't easily catch stones. There are additional lamellae at the front and back for the best grip during fast movements. The soles are also highly resistant to abrasion, holding up well and lasting a long time. The insole removed. Perforated at the front for ventilation. For sizing, check out the size chart at LOWA HERE. The indicated foot length is interesting. In case of doubt, compare this with shoes you already have. For a perfect fit, we had to go half a size up.

Without the insole, you can see the hand-written number 70 in our shoe, which is probably the part number. A sign that the shoe was really handcrafted. Running your hand inside feels very smooth. Clean transitions, no height differences. This prevents discomfort and blisters while marching. In the manufacturer's picture, the contrast between Multicam and the brown shoe structure seems to be a bit high, but as you can see in the pictures above, this is not the case in reality. After the first use, the shoe fits perfectly with any other Multicam gear, such as tactical pants.

CONCLUSION: An extremely comfortable, very light, waterproof operational shoe that encourages movement. No matter the climate, you feel comfortable and protected in it. The Multicam gives it a great look, it also fits excellently with equipment in this camouflage pattern. And as modern as this shoe is: Since 1923, LOWA has been producing in Bavaria, so they can look back on almost 100 years of experience. This know-how combined with modern materials is convincing. HERE is the link to the shoe directly from LOWA.

You can get the shoe HERE at RECON COMPANY or HERE at TACWRK for 179,90€, but also at various other retailers carrying LOWA.
