REVIEW: Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt by TIGER TAILOR

At ENFORCE TAC 2024, we discovered the booth of TIGER TAILOR. There, the French gear manufacturer from Grand Est presented their products to the interested trade audience. TIGER TAILOR collaborates with units of the French Military, Gendarmerie, and Police Nationale, incorporating their experiences and ideas into their high-quality products. The newly developed Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt is offered in a set with the undershirt Flatbelt Gen.2.

The Set

The set consists of a Flatbelt Gen.2 undershirt, the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt, and the chosen COBRA closure. The choice was the COBRA Pro Style FY25KFF.

The Tactical Belt

The Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt is a 50 mm wide belt, making it suitable for all common belt loops.

The anatomically cut shape of the belt makes it more stable and comfortable to wear.

The Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt contours to the body shape. The weight of the equipment does not put as much pressure on the hip.

There is a choice to be made. Depending on the application and area of operation, there are two closures to choose from. TIGER TAILOR offers a choice between COBRA Pro Style FY25KFF or a D-ring COBRA Pro Style FX25KVD. The advantage of this construction is that users can replace the original buckle with any 25 cm wide buckle: a versatile belt ⭕.

Depending on the color, the outer material is either polyester or polyamide. Polyamide fabric has the highest strength of all textile raw materials. This makes equipment made of polyamide material even more robust and durable than polyester clothing.

For the inner material, TIGER TAILOR uses a thermoplastic lining for the entire belt in the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt. The use of polypropylene provides the belt with pleasant stiffness, reduces weight, and stabilizes holsters and attached pockets.

Continuous laser-cut MOLLE loops are used for attaching equipment such as magazine pouches, dump pouch, IFAK, etc.

The three tapered MOLLE lines allow for a lower profile with sufficient stability for the attached pouches.

The Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt is equipped on the inside with hook and loop fasteners, allowing it to connect perfectly with the Flatbelt Gen.2 underbelt. The belt sits securely on the underbelt, moves with every motion, and stays in place.

Between the duty belt and underbelt, fastener attachments with hook and loop can be added. Like the CAT Holder from TIGER TAILOR shown here.

Four small loops made of paracord are used for attaching carabiners or a wrist strap.

This saves space and weight.

Mounting COBRA Buckle and Length Adjustment

On their website, TIGER TAILOR explains in a slideshow how to attach the COBRA Buckle to the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt and simultaneously adjust the length of the duty belt.

The length adjustment, a webbing nylon strap with hook and loop on both sides of the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt, is done through the COBRA Buckle. Afterwards, the strap is threaded through the elastic loop.

Now, the strap is threaded through the first slot from inside to outside.

The next step is to guide the strap from the outside to the second slot inside.

Pull on the webbing until the desired size is reached.

Thanks to the hook and loop areas on the webbing, it is secured inside the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt and the Flatbelt Gen.2. The length adjustment remains secure and firm.

The advantage of this system: excess webbing remains inside and does not take up unnecessary space on the duty belt. The webbing is provided with hook-and-loop on both sides and also sticks to the underbelt.

Important Note!

Due to its construction, because both ends of the buckle are adjustable, the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt cannot be considered as a normal climbing harness. The duty belt Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt despite its high load capacity is not certified as a personal safety belt or as PPE replacement (Personal Protective Equipment)! The adjustable waist belt passed a load test under continuous tension of 350 kg, without damage, so it can be worn by anyone with the equipment.

The Underbelt

The Flatbelt Gen.2 was originally developed for the French special unit of the Police Nationale of the RAID. Made of soft materials that adapt to the shape of the pelvis during use.

The underbelt is 38 mm wide and compatible with all tactical pants.

The hook and loop on the outside of the underbelt allows for quick and secure attachment of the upper belt with hook and loop on the inside.

The oval ring closure allows for secure fastening and has a low profile.

Modularity

Like other companies, TIGER TAILOR values the modular application and expansion of their equipment. For example, the Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt can be expanded with Caiman Gen.2 Suspenders. The duty belt is compatible with various Libelt 50 Adapters or with various Panels from TIGER TAILOR.

CONCLUSION: The set consisting of Libelt Gen.2 Tactical Belt and Flatbelt Gen.2 plus selectable COBRA closure from TIGER TAILOR is an innovative and advanced equipment package. Lightweight and robust, excellent workmanship completes the overall package. The length adjustment is very well integrated into the belt and does not take up any space. The width is optimal and accommodates other equipment parts very well. Together with the underbelt, it forms a perfect unit, providing not only a secure fit but also maximum wearing comfort.
