REVIEW: LDI DBAL-I2

11/10/2014By Redaktion

Laserwars! A green fine beam travels through the landscape to illuminate the target for the comrades. For this you need a powerful, robust laser. ACT in Black offers you one, namely the DBAL-I². We took a closer look at it for you.

dbali2_2The Dual Beam Aiming Laser - Inteligent², to give the full name, from Laser Devices Inc is somewhat the improvement of the well-known AN/PEQ-2. Smaller, lighter, more robust and above all cheaper than its old competitor. In the image above you can see the scope of delivery of the laser: battery (CR123A), cable switch, pattern filter and of course the laser box itself. Here are the technical data:

  • Dimensions: approx. 10 x 6.8 x 4.5 cm
  • Robust aviation aluminum housing, MIL-SPEC Type III anodized
  • Green and IR laser
  • High and Low Power Modes
  • Meets MIL-STD_810G
  • ESD protected
  • Activation and battery warning light
  • Full adjustability of the lasers
  • Pattern filter (NSN #1240-01-537-0496)
  • Waterproof up to 20m
  • Made in U.S.A.
  • Custom ACT-Mod! will not be delivered with IR lasers from LDI

dbali2_3From the outside, the laser box looks very unspectacular. Two adjusting screws per laser, 4 holes for mounting a Docter Sight and the FIRE button. On the underside a stable quick-release clamp.

dbali2_5On the front, the two laser covers and in between the battery compartment for a CR123A. On the back the rotary knob, the control light and the cable switch connection. The two blue screws can be screwed in at the rotary knob to prevent accidental activation of the High Power mode.

dbali2_4The operation is simple, simply choose visible or IR laser High or Low with the rotary knob. Then press the FIRE button on the top or the attached cable switch to make the laser shine. A double press then switches to Constant On mode until the switch is pressed again. The cable switch is simply plugged in, just like with the WMX200. Everything is very simple.

dbali2_6The difference between Low and High is quite remarkable, although the green laser on Low already looks very bright (unfortunately not fully conveyed in the picture).dbali2_7With the IR laser it's the same, just in green. On the right in the image the pattern filter square can be more or less clearly seen. As patterns, circle, T, triangle, square and cross are available.

CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a robust, lightweight target marking laser that is also quite affordable, you are in the right place with the DBAL-I². Top quality at an absolute top price.

Available at ACT in Black for €1,399 (excluding shipping)
