When you belong to the Russian domestic secret service, you must already feel quite strong in civilian life. With a Body Armor, the experience is probably even more intense. We took a look at the Defender 2 MOLLE (diagonal) replica from Indonesia Repro Technologies for you. The Defender armor is mainly used by the FSB. There have been army units that have worn it for testing purposes, but not in operation, unlike the paramilitary units of the FSB.
What the CIRAS from Eagle Industries is in the West, the Defender 2 is in the East: a heavy armor that accommodates plates and soft armor and turns every man into a Robocop. The Defender 2 is not your choice if you want to run a lot in the field. In built-up areas, when maximum body protection is required, it shows its advantages.
Bulletproof collar protection in the original, attached magazine pockets. The Defender is as flexible in equipment as a Western armor with MOLLE. Here on the chest, there is crosswise diagonal MOLLE, which means that if you attach the pockets correctly, they incline at a few degrees and would be easier to use. Good idea, but not a revolution in gear development. We actually only know slanted MOLLE from this armor. However, the Defender also comes in straight MOLLE and without MOLLE at all.
Magazine pockets for the AK in front. Of course, you can also attach other pockets without them.
Here you can see it without, but with groin protection. After all, not insignificant parts that are hidden behind the detachable curtain.
Under the prominent FSB shield are insert pockets for plates. At the back, there is a handle to transport a wounded person.
The body armor is closed with Velcro to the front. The attached magazine panel - only available on the MOLLE versions of the Defender - is additionally clipped and tightened. When properly adjusted, the Defender 2 fits perfectly on the body.
The inside has an appealing blue and accommodates Soft Armor on one side. On the other hand, you can see spacers so that the body has a chance to get air and cooling. Overheating is a permanent problem with this type of body armor.
IRT supplies the Defender with the AK Pouches. The rest - including pockets for radio, pistol magazines, MPi magazines, and a dump pouch - are available separately.
CONCLUSION: The original FSB armor is hard to come by. The replica from IRT provides it relatively cheaply and in very good quality. We are curious to see what else IRT will reproduce beautifully. One thing is clear, Russian armors are on par with Western ones.
You can get the IRT Defender 2 MOLLE (diagonal), for example, at REDSTAR MILITARIA for 189.90 Euros. You can find the IRT website with other Russian gear HERE.
