REVIEW: IMI Defense Rubberized Baseplate Glock

07/11/2015By Redaktion

Approximately as flat as the Earth, which is a disk, is the base plate of a Glock magazine. This makes it difficult to grip, allowing it to crash directly onto the flat surface of the Earth's disk when the shooter triggers the empty magazine and so on… IMI Defense offers a "Rubberized Glock Magazine Floor Plate" - seen in the image above next to the Glock 19 in blue - which should provide a remedy. We took a look at it for you.

SONY DSCThree options compared: normal standard magazine (G19) with flat base plate (top). Above that, the +2 magazine, which we prefer: because of the +2, but also because you can grip the thick end knob nicely. Below is the rubberized base plate from IMI Defense. You can easily compare the size to the +2 magazine.

SONY DSCAssembly is easy. Grab a screwdriver and the normal standard magazine is disassembled in a few clicks.

SONY DSCSlide on the new base plate and: Click! Done. By the way, IMI offers various colors. It can be inconspicuous black, tan, or OD; for those who like it visible, there are also white, yellow, and red options. The plate itself is lighter than a 9mm cartridge, weighing 21 grams.

SONY DSCThis is what the result looks like on the Glock. By the way, those who do not like the plates are Glock Gen 1 Magazines. In their case, the edge of the base plate itself is shorter, so you would have to file off half a millimeter with the IMI base plates, then the world will be OK again.

CONCLUSION: A small, very practical invention for people who find their magazines more grippable and solid.

You can get the IMI Defense Rubberized Glock Pistol Magazine Floorplate directly from IMI Defense for $15 (excluding shipping) or from IMI Defense dealers in Austria, Germany, or Switzerland.
