A friend, a good friend, that's the best thing in the world … Of course, you also have to make sure you always have them with you when you need them. And if dark times come, it's definitely worth having a weapon light on it or a light-laser module. That's usually where the misery starts. You have a common weapon – like a Glock – and a common weapon light – like Surefire – but then it gets particularly expensive with the holster. Why? Because they can (demand) it… Or maybe not expensive: if you find the IMI Defense Z1600 -TLH Tactical light/laser Holster Level II in time, which we are introducing to you today.
Why the hell Level II? Because the weapon is secured by a mechanical element, at Level I it is only held by the tension of the holster. Here you can see a cap over the slide of the Glock. Right behind it, towards the body, is a push button with which the safety is released.
Click! And the flap is gone. By the way, with an audible noise. That should be irrelevant, because when you draw, it's time… Or you hold your index finger over the cap and press simultaneously before slowly and silently opening the holster.
Say 'Hello' to my little friend! – Here comes the Glock 19 with a Surefire X300 out of the holster. The Z1600 fits Glock 17/19/22/23/31/32. And it is also available as a separate model for the common SIGs. The hole in the middle of the holster is for the screwdriver when removing the paddle.
The bulge at the back holds the weapon light. IMI announces that the following models fit:
And that's not all, the Inforce APL also fits, we discovered. At the front, on the round cap that closes the holster downwards, there is a screw with which you can easily adjust the width and improve the fit.
Last look from above. The trigger and the cap securing the weapon fit very nicely.
It comes with a paddle that can be adjusted in angle. But it can also be unscrewed. IMI Defense offers several attachment solutions, belt loops, and also a thigh plate. But then you have to buy them yourself and extra. This way, you can better define the distance to the belt or whether the weapon should be on the hip or thigh (if the plate carrier otherwise hinders drawing).
CONCLUSION: Holsters with weapon lights are usually very expensive. Fun, when you're not sure if the model suits you or not. IMI Defense has an affordable and secure model that leaves many possibilities open (e.g. changing the weapon light model without needing a new holster). The weapon has a good fit, you quickly get used to the release mechanism. There may be more elegant things than the folded flap, but functionally the holster totally convinces us. This is good and affordable gear for users. And, friends: the light is always with you…
You can get the IMI-Z1600 -TLH Tactical light/laser holster level II for Glock 17/19/22/23/25/31/32 (also compatible with Gen 4) directly from IMI Defense for $112.50 (excluding shipping) or from dealers who carry IMI – BLACK SHADOW for €89.50 for example.
