REVIEW: HELIKON-TEX Outdoor Tactical Ultra Shorts (OTUS)

This is hot. Not just the pants. These are from Helikon-Tex and are called Outdoor Tactical Ultra Shorts (OTUS). And they are hot, really hot...

The magic of the pants is the fabric. Helikon-Tex is going ultra-light. We put the OTUS on the scale: 211 grams came out. It's called VersaStretch Lite fabric, which is extremely light and breathable.

For comparison: things we always carry with us. Belt, car keys, and a little knife with carbon scales weigh more than the pants they're in.

And the OTUS are the shortest shorts from Helikon-Tex. Not 11“, not 8.5“. Just a gentle start to the pants tube, here they show off your thighs nicely.

The other features are as classic as we love them on all our Helikon-Tex pants. They close with Velcro and a zipper.

Belts up to 50 mm wide fit, and there are also small loops to attach a lanyard.

The pockets are reinforced for pocket knives.

Here, the front pocket and back pocket come together. The small compartment at the back can fit a pistol magazine, a flashlight, or (if pressed) a Snickers bar.

Favorite feature of these pants: The front pocket for your phone. We never go without it...

Following that is the practical thigh pocket...

The pants from the back. No, it doesn't feel tight, it's flexible. Very much so.

With these pants, you can properly show off your leg muscles. Or not.

CONCLUSION: A sweet nothing for the summer. The OTUS is so light that you could almost forget you're wearing it. Ideal for trekking too. With a small pack size. Otherwise, the practical design from Helikon is proven. The pleasant color here is Taiga Green.
