Clean drinking water is important. In our latitudes, there are no problems getting such, but in other parts of the world, things look quite different. Even those who are far away from civilization can sometimes have a hard time finding clean drinking water quickly. The GEOPRESS from Grayl elegantly solves this problem.
The GEOPRESS is available in many color combinations, we received the Covert Black version for testing. Even the box is kept in black on black. Very chic and tacticool.
In it there is the GEOPRESS and an instruction manual. The GEOPRESS is a drinking bottle and filter in one and is also simple to use.
The bottle is about 27 cm high and has a diameter of 8.7 cm, so it's a slightly larger Nalgene bottle. It holds 710 ml of water, not quite 3/4 of a liter. The workmanship is very high quality and the bottle is equipped with an anti-slip rubber at the bottom.
The lid can be unscrewed for cleaning and there is also a smaller drinking opening available to you.
The black part is not actually the bottle, but a cup or sleeve. The actual drinking bottle with the filter on the bottom is inserted into it. At first glance, it reminds us of a pneumatic tube cartridge.
This is the filter. It removes particles (mud, microplastics, etc.) and waterborne pathogens (99.99% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.9% of protozoan cysts), including Rotavirus, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidium, E. Coli, Cholera, Salmonella, dysentery, etc. Thanks to activated carbon, the GEOPRESS filter effectively absorbs chemicals, pesticides, heavy metals, flavors, and odors.
The filter is easy to replace, because after 250 liters of brave water filtration, its life is over. But how does the filtering process work?
First, fill the outer cup with the water to be filtered. There is a maximum fill line to be found on the cup.
Then place the cup on a stable surface and insert the filter bottle. Thanks to rubber rings, it is ensured that the contaminated water can only pass through the filter into the drinking bottle.
Finally, all you have to do is press the drinking bottle firmly and steadily downward. This filters the water and it enters the drinking bottle. Everything is filtered in at most 30 seconds. A really simple process.
In the video from the Kickstarter campaign, the whole process is beautifully captured in moving images.
So let's taste the filtered stream water.
Tastes like water. We couldn't detect any particles or strange flavors. The GEOPRESS works. However, for really muddy water, it's advantageous to prefilter it, otherwise the filter will clog quickly.
CONCLUSION: The GEOPRESS is a very functional drinking water filter, which convinces mainly through its simplicity in handling. The filtering performance is very good. If you need a water filter for your next adventure, you can't go wrong with the GEOPRESS.
The Grayl GEOPRESS is available at S4 Supplies starting from 99.95 Euros in various colors. Replacement filters are available for 35.95 Euros.
