Canadian winter specialist G3 (= Genuine Guide Gear) calls the tool "Bonesaw", living up to its name: This snow saw is trimmed to lightweight at 169 grams. The sharp teeth easily cut through compacted snow blocks that will later be assembled into an igloo. The stainless steel blade of this practical tool can also handle ice. If you want to use it to determine the crystal structure of the snow, the printed grids are handy. When digging a snow profile, they help assess the snow layering better. Additionally, markings at five-centimeter intervals are printed, making the saw useful as a probe. The handle has slots not only for weight saving but also to secure a ski pole or a larger piece of wood using the rubber bands of the sheath, extending the cutting or probing reach.
However, the application of the Bonesaw is not limited to winter: It also serves well on canoe trips, for example, when a river is blocked by debris. Due to its lightweight and compact dimensions (total length is 47 cm/saw length is 35 cm), it also fits in a backpack or can be mounted externally on it. The practical tool reaches its limits when used extensively for sawing wood. Then, the rubberized handle can cause hand pain, and a classic bow saw would be a better choice. However, the latter does not have an integrated bottle opener. Where this bottle opener is hidden on the Bone Saw, everyone has to find out for themselves?
The G3 Bonesaw is available for € 59,- among other places at this address:
