If something is heavy and pressing in the front, you can balance the load by adding something in the back. That's the simple lesson that Counterweights on the helmet implement. Front sight device - rear counterweight (or battery pack, if used). This is the FMA clone of the original Ops-Core Counterweight. And this is the real Ops-Core Counterweight. Ops-Core finishes this in these colors: Urban Tan, Foliage, and Black.
The color palette at FMA is much larger, so the Multicam Counterweight in the cover image is a clone as well. Here we see it unfolded and partially disassembled. The original likely uses Cordura and Hypalon. FMA has a unique material that reminds us of faux leather.
In the center are small metal pieces. The original likely uses lead, while the Chinese version uses rusty iron, which also does the job.
The bag itself is versatile. If not used as a counterweight, the iron pieces can be removed and batteries inserted. The bag on the back of the helmet can hold AA, AAA, or CR123A batteries. And one can never have enough batteries with them, as you know.
The weight is interesting. FMA delivers lighter, totaling around 250 grams. The original is heavier because the five weights inside deliver five times 70 grams, so already 350 grams (without bag and mounting).
The little bag is well thought out. You can also fit a Chemlight that blinks through the slit.
But it's not just Chemlight - here in IR - the small Velcro area next to it also holds IFF squares for friend-enemy recognition in night vision. It's always good when the guy behind you knows who you are affiliated with ...
The bag is completely covered with Velcro on the back. This allows it to be attached to the Velcro strips on the back of the helmet cover or the helmet itself.
Because just that alone doesn't provide enough security, there are these brackets.
These are screwed onto the rails below and can also stay there. The loop from the counterweight bag is pulled through there.
And reconnected in the bag. The counterweight is not only fixed at the back of the helmet with Velcro, but also anchored to the right and left towards the rails. Better safe than sorry.
If you're not wearing a battery pack in the back, you could also use Shock Cord and tension the battery compartment with the help of the brackets.
CONCLUSION: Not the original, but practical. Works as a battery compartment as well as an affordable counterweight for night vision.
The FMA Helmet Counter Weight is available in Airsoftzone in Multicam, Tan, and Black for Euro 14.90.
