We like flashlights. And we like them even more when they are small and bright - and preferably also affordable. From First Tactical there is just that: the Small Duty Light. We have taken a close look at it and share our experiences with you:
As can be clearly seen in the picture, it is very "small": just 11 cm long (with serrated mount), 2.5 cm wide at the lamp head and not more than 107 g in weight with the battery. The housing of the lamp is provided with grooves, so that it is easier to grip on the one hand, and on the other hand, it does not roll away when placed on a sloping surface. First assessment: Altogether a very nice, small EDC light.
The whole thing is delivered - here disassembled into individual parts - with a finger loop, detachable pocket clip, two different mounts (smooth and serrated), and an AA battery. Yes, an AA battery - and not the almost classic CR123A.
Many will now think: "Well, without a CR123A, the lamp can't do much", but we see it differently. An AA battery can be obtained relatively easily anywhere in the world, which is probably the advantage, but of course it affects the runtime and maximum brightness. Speaking of runtime and brightness: The lamp has a power of 161 lumens with a runtime according to the manufacturer of 4h (left image), and 15 lumens (right image) with a runtime of 26h. The actual runtime with a fresh AA battery will probably lie somewhere in between, depending on how the lamp is used.
The operation is simple: Press the button all the way in: "Constant On" with 161 lumens, or just lightly for "Momentary On" with 161 lumens. If you want to switch to the 25 lumen mode, simply double-click quickly. Depending on whether you have pressed all the way through or not, you are in "Momentary" or "Constant On" mode.
CONCLUSION: The Small Duty Light has convinced us as an EDC light, especially because of the choice of battery. The light is bright enough for tactical use and is very suitable as a path illuminator through the "Sparmodus" (energy-saving mode). The price is also in energy-saving mode and pleases the user.
