REVIEW: FAT PANCAKE Modular Rig

09/29/2022By Redaktion

Chunky pancakes? We all love them. And now you can also wear them... Don't take it too literally, but FAT PANCAKE makes Gear. And it's small and fine and also made to order. The very modular Modular is its Chest Rig.

Here you can see everything assembled. Magazines are stored behind the MOLLE surface in this case. Wings are attached on the right and left, lots of lasercut details. The wings on the review rig are custom-made. The elastic pocket behind is intentionally chunky to accommodate PRC152 radios. Normally, they are sized for slimmer 556 mags.

This is what the piece looks like when worn. We haven't attached any additional pouches, you can see that in the opening picture. By the way, there's an admin panel between the straps in that picture, which is missing here.

Wide shoulder straps with vertical slots, where you can also insert velcro straps to store radio cables or hydration tubes.

Where the straps meet, bungee cord holds everything together, a simple, flexible solution.

It can also tighten successfully when needed. The shock cord is not only elastic, but also the breaking point if too much tension is put on the harness or rig. This way, you don't break the entire piece, just a piece of shock cord. It can be easily repaired in the field with paracord, shoelaces, tape, cable ties...

Back view of the Modular Rig: H-straps and waist strap. The H-straps can also easily be converted into X-harness. Simply open the shock cord, remove the lasercut bar, and re-knot. The lasercut bars on the back also allow for the attachment of lightweight hydration packs. By the way, don't ask us about the T-shirt. If you have it, you have it...

The side view is very classic.

This illustration from the manufacturer shows how modular the piece is. It can pass as a Micro Rig or a full-fledged Chest Rig with expansion options.

There are different options for the connection from strap to rig because it's interchangeable. Here we have G-hooks, which some like because they are light, while others don't because they claim they come undone easily.

The entire system is velcroed into the rig.

And the Multicam surface then conceals the structure.

The side parts are also velcroed and folding them in layers secures everything.

This is how one part fits into the other...

Here is our configured model from the back.
