Originally from Garmin and sailing, the Foretrex 101 was soon also popular among runners and then quickly among soldiers who don't like getting lost. You can document routes with the original and navigate back to the starting point, which is very convenient.
The dummy is of course non-functional. Even though the shape of the dummy is good, the difference from the original can be detected immediately. The color here is more yellow, the real 101 is more Coyote (the successor 401 is green).
This would be the original. The review of the newer Foretrex 401 can be found HERE.
The dummy comes with a strap, but you can remove it right away because the Foretrex is usually used in a pouch.
The display on the dummy also looks very artificial.
Here it is in a pouch on an MP7. Notice the display. You can find eBay.com photos of displays on adhesive film that look very real. The compass function would be visible here.
The mounting on the MP7 would be a clone of an S&S Precision Mount used by DEVGRU.
CONCLUSION: Good and affordable replacement for a device that you don't actually need. The dummy is practical and inexpensive.
You can find the Emerson Foretrex 101 Dummy at AIRSOFTZONE.AT for EUR 14.90.
