The Surefire M951, the smaller brother of the M961, is already considered a classic tactical weapon light. Element has also made a copy of it. Read about the function and quality of this replica here at SPARTANAT.
It is quickly evident that the Element M951 is very well made, and even includes a copied Surefire logo. The logo is covered with a marker when purchased, but easily removed with a bit of nitro thinner. The biggest optical difference is the color: the original is more of a gray-blue, while Element offers it in black. Another difference from the original is that the Element version is powered by a CREE Q2 LED.
The lamp consists essentially of three main parts, four when including the cable switch. The lamp head can be further unscrewed. The switch part and the middle part with rail mount are identical to the M961. The cable switch is screwed to the lamp and holds securely. All screw connections are provided with at least one O-ring.
Now onto the function: It is very simple. The light is illuminated either by the supplied cable switch or the pressure button. The pressure button locks in after being pressed, putting the light in "Steady On" mode. Pressing again turns it off. 2 CR123A batteries are required for operation.
The light is very bright, as mentioned before. The image was taken from a distance of 1.5m and the diameter of the center is ~20cm. It can certainly be compared to the M3X.
CONCLUSION: Overall, a really excellent product that comes highly recommended. Those who appreciate the Old School Look – which is still relevant today – will definitely enjoy this affordable option. It is bright, sturdy, and reliable. In short: Element has made us happy.
The M951 is available at RSOV for $42.99 excluding shipping.
