Optik & Sights

REVIEW: Combat Sights 4x4 compared - The Balance

05/17/2018By Redaktion

After presenting four 4x magnification optics, we would like to share our summary with you.

For the sake of clarity, first a table with a rough evaluation (click to enlarge):

As a brief core assessment, we can say: The devices do what they were designed for: we see the MAKstorm and BSO in a sporty environment, and the BCO and TA02 in a military/tactical environment.

BROWE BSO 4x32 - REVIEW: BROWE BSO

The Browe BSO is the heart's favorite - underestimated because nobody we know talks about it or uses it. We find this device ideal for quick hits in the 50-300 meter range due to its price, size, and weight. Coupled with a red dot, this setup is nearly genius.

BROWE BCO 4x32 - REVIEW: BROWE BCO

We like the BCO - compared to its direct competitor, the TA02 from Trijicon, it is extremely difficult for us to choose between the two devices. If both devices were mixed, it would create the perfect Combat Sight. So, a call to Browe:

  • Flip the battery compartment to preserve the excellent RDS ring
  • Use an AA battery instead of a CR123

Trijicon TA02 4x32 - REVIEW: TRIJICON TA02

See above regarding the BCO - again, a very good device where it is difficult to choose between the two. Call to Trijicon:

  • Use automatic brightness adjustment
  • Offer more reticle colors
  • Offer a .308 reticle for 4x32
  • Provide a proper factory mount

MAK MAKstorm 4x30 i HD - REVIEW: MAKstorm

The MAKstorm is technically very convincing, we would like a slightly finer reticle and significantly stronger illumination. Otherwise, a sleek and futuristic design in the most compact package of the series. Call to MAK:

  • Finer and better illuminated reticle
  • Integrate the MAKmasterLock mount from the factory
  • Longer battery life

CONCLUSION: We would describe the Browe BSO as the best all-rounder - the doomsday preppers will be pleased with the lack of a battery and passive illumination. Due to the ring mount, the optic allows for the widest range of placement.

The best Combat Sight goes to Triji…rowe… Brojicon? - Yes, as you can see, we can't quite decide. Battery life and AA are important factors for an optic intended to be used on battlefields like the Middle East. On the other hand, one also needs an optic that can quickly adapt to changing light conditions. So here you must decide for yourself. With both devices, you definitely can't go wrong.

As the best sport optic focusing on indoor shooting, we choose the MAKstorm - if the illumination is improved a bit, the device definitely has potential.

We hope that the comparison test has helped you a bit. If you want to see other 4x devices, please write it down in the comments below, and we will do our best to serve you there.
