REVIEW: CARINTHIA MIG 4.0 Jacket

Winter is not coming. Er ist längst da. Höchste Zeit die Bekleidung zu wechseln: wir legen CARINTHIA an, den heimischen Spezialisten für Cold Gear. Die MIG 4.0 – das Kürzel steht für Medium Isolated Garment (MIG) – ist der Gipfel der aktuellen Evolution des Kärntner Herstellers. Die Garnitur besteht aus Jacke und Hose. In der SPARTANAT Review haben wir euch die Hose bereits vorgestellt. Jetzt legen wir die MIG 4.0 Jacke an.

Die 4.0 ist eine richtige Einsatzjacke. CARINTHIA hat ja aktuell die ganze Linie überarbeitet und das hier ist nun das neue Flaggschiff des Hauses, wiewohl es auch 3.0 Modelle noch gibt (zum Beispiel in wunderschönem Multicam Alpine und Multicam). Beide sind großartige, auch wenn uns die 3.0 „ziviler“ (stark unter Anführungszeichen) vorgekommen ist. Mit MIG 4.0 ist man wieder hart im Dienst angekommen und wir wollen euch die Features im Detail vorstellen:

Die MIG 4.0 ist eine Wintergarnitur. Gut gefüllt mit der Faser G-LOFT, um die sich bei CARINTHIA alles dreht. Die Hersteller sagen minus 15 Grad, wir tragen die schon früher. Subjektiv kommt und der Temperaturbereich etwas gemildert vor, das heißt man kann die MIG 4.0 schon bei leichten Minusgraden anziehen ohne zu zerschwitzen. Wäre uns mit MIG 3.0 nicht eingefallen. Hersteller meint trotzdem, dass das die selbe Fülle sei, nehmen wir zur Kenntnis.

Die Jacke hat die großen seitlichen Taschen, die im Winter alles gut erreichbar halten und in die man, auch wenn sie hoch liegen, die Händchen stecken kann.

Innen wartet weicher, warmer Fleece auf die kalten Finger.

Die MIG 4.0 hat einen hohen Kragen. Der schließt dem Kinn ab und garantiert, dass es nicht von oben zieht.

Innen ist der Kragen ebenfalls mit Fleece gefüttert. CARINTHIA will euch mit seinem Thermovlies wohl verweichlichen …

Closed with a zipper, the jacket fits snugly, but with room for clothing underneath.

An additional bar behind the zipper guarantees that there is no cold bridge in front. The CARINTHIA logo is not likely to be present in the regular versions. We have a pre-production model in use here.

At the bottom, not only is the zipper threaded in. The snap button ensures that it can be closed easily. It is also practical because the wearer can wear the jacket open and only close the snap button, so that the MIG 4.0 is closed around the hips.

This is the interior of the MIG 4.0 jacket. Looks like a sleeping bag, but it's not one, it has the same warming function. From the CARINTHIA company, there are also great sleeping bags.

On one side of the jacket, there is a writable strip where you can write the name so that the item is not confused. Those who wear it individually are not required to do so. In units where everyone has the same jacket, it is different.

There are two mesh pockets inside that are close to the body.

Small, important logo: Made in Europe. We find that particularly commendable.

This is the tag with the CARINTHIA logo lettering inside the back neck of the jacket.

Side view of the jacket. It's nice to see that the lower back area is slightly longer. There is nothing uglier than feeling a cold draft in the winter. No danger with the MIG 4.0.

At the top, CARINTHIA has opted for a two-piece design. This guarantees a perfectly fitting collar. The hood is ready for use.

When it gets really cold and you want to have a hood, it can be additionally put on. A helmet would also fit underneath.

A small visor protects the field of vision even in a snowstorm.

There is also a lot of attention to detail here. The hood can be adjusted so that it fits snugly around the head.

The cord stopper is hidden under a flap. The jacket is also NIR - so it is secure against observation with night vision devices.

The two-piece design is a great advance with the MIG and makes it more versatile.

On the outside, the MIG 4.0 is made of two materials: GORE Windstopper with RipStop and Cordura on top as abrasion-resistant material.

You can see the two materials here. On the front left shoulder, the embroidered logo of CARINTHIA can be found.

The shoulders are special stress areas. The reinforced shoulders guarantee long durability.

Even the front pockets are placed so that they are easily accessible despite the harness of the backpack.

Now let's move on to the sleeve area.

Always especially important on a jacket, as we like it: large Velcro areas on both shoulders for patches. Above that, a small Velcro square. Fits IR tabs or Ranger Eyes. Of course, we recommend the classic SPARTANAT Ranger Eye - only available in our shop.

On the upper arms there are pockets with zippers. Note how nicely the zipper is concealed.

Inside, there is also a small loop for securing items.

Also a nice detail, the garage where the zipper can be parked.

The elbows are - like the shoulders - extra reinforced.

On the left forearm there is also a small pocket with loop security. ID and Snickers quickly within reach.

Carinthia has also paid special attention to the sleeve end. Closed with a thick strap.

There is also a stiff reinforcement here because the jacket is particularly stressed in that area.

And this is the inside of the sleeve. No cold air will ever get in here. And everything fits perfectly.

From the back, the finely crafted MIG 4.0 jacket looks plain.

There is also a Velcro in the neck for an IR tab. So you don't get lost at night and your friends can see you with the night vision device.

CONCLUSION: The MIG 4.0 is a fantastic jacket for winter. The new features are convincing and prove themselves. In terms of temperature range and durability, an unbeatable, European jacket. Together with the pants, CARINTHIA offers a top product that can withstand hardships - and looks stylish.
