REVIEW: BLACKFOLIUM Multi Adaptive Rifle Sling MARS

There is nothing more boring than holding a rifle in your hands all the time. That's why you attach a sling to the weapon, so you can hang it somewhere until the shooter goes into position. From Italy comes the new manufacturer BLACKFOLIUM, who has put a lot of effort into bringing a new rifle sling to the market. A member of the Italian maritime special forces was involved in the development. Today we take a closer look at the Multi Adaptive Rifle Sling (MARS).

The package consists of the MARS, a small manual, a plastic bag with spare parts, and stickers. We also received a very nice patch that will go on the SPARTANAT velcro wall. The sling is individually configured when ordering. We have the high-end version here: the MARS is a 2-point sling that can be converted to 1-point, and for that we use QD Swivels.

A rifle sling is a rifle sling is a rifle sling ... Yes and no. In terms of functionality, the MARS does first and foremost what we see in the picture: hanging the weapon over the shoulder.

BLACKFOLIUM leaves it up to the user which hooks to use. Classic HK for example. We prefer, as mentioned, QD Swivels. Both front and rear. This is possible with the AUG because we use the extremely practical Claw Gear AUG QD Sling Swivels - HERE in our review - advantage: press the button twice ...

... and the sling can be detached from the front and back of the weapon. Convenient for various occasions. BLACKFOLIUM has also thought even more. They have built in a special part that allows the user to switch from a 2-point sling to a one-point sling with a click.

When the sling is shortened, it looks like this. And this is super practical because all the straps are behind the weapon and does not get in the way when moving and shooting.

The sling consists of two material areas: here shoulder pads made of 500D Cordura with foam inside, it was extended with Nylon Webbing to make up the sling. Here you can see not only the logo label but also how beautifully and precisely the strap is sewn. The craftsmanship, together with the chosen materials, is what determines the quality. The padding is positioned so that the strap is perfectly cushioned on the shoulder and the pressure is distributed better. At the same time, the thick material prevents any sharp parts of the strap from bothering or cutting into your neck. The padded area is relatively small on the MARS and lies like a "U" over the shoulder.

The strap is designed with a reserve. So if you are tall and strong, you can get more material from here to make the basic adjustment. If you are short and strong, this hump of folded straps under an elastic loop will be larger. For those who know exactly what they want, they can of course use scissors and reduce it to the necessary length. We do not have to say it, but we do: Beware, the process is irreversible.

In terms of functionality, the MARS is quite similar to the VTAC Sling. The ITW shrink-wrapped buckle goes to an ITW Waterburry Buckle, which can be opened and closed quickly.
