REVIEW: Arc'teryx LEAF Chimera Shirt LS

10/13/2014By Redaktion

When it's too hot for a combat shirt and a t-shirt doesn't provide enough protection from the sun, Weaponsling, and on the arms, the Chimera Shirt from Arc'teryx LEAF comes into play. Due to its non-flame retardant properties, this shirt is likely intended for use on the training range, but it can also be easily imagined in humid, tropical areas. Martin has tested it for you.

The torso is made of a very lightweight, elastic polyester with good moisture wicking properties, referred to by Arcteryx as Cyberknit 571n. The material is also used on the inner arms to ensure maximum breathability. The shoulder area, collar, and arms are made of 4-way LT 520e Tweave® Durastretch, which in addition to its stretch properties, is also water and wind resistant. Furthermore, it is highly abrasion-resistant and breathable.

On each side of the sleeves, there is an upper arm pocket with a zipper. The pocket is very slim and opens from the front. Additionally, there is 4x4 inches of Velcro on top for patches. The zippers are covered with heat shrink tubing, providing good grip even with gloves.

The sleeve ends are equipped with elastic cuffs, so unfortunately, the sleeves cannot be rolled up, which is a clear disadvantage. Flat Velcro closures could have been easily used here, as also used on the Wraith Jacket.

The collar is round in the front and raised in the back, protecting the neck from sunburn and the rifle strap. The Arc'teryx logo is printed here.

CONCLUSION: For those looking for a lightweight combat shirt and can live without flame-retardant properties, this Arc'teryx shirt is perfect. While the sleeves cannot be rolled up, this isn't a major issue due to the lightweight material. The shirt dries very quickly under body armor or a backpack, making it ideal for training.

Available at TACWRK in the colors Black and the Crocodile presented here.
