Helm & Hood

REVIEW: AGILITE Mitznefet

05/19/2021By Redaktion

The Israeli army (IDF) is famous for its somewhat peculiar helmet camouflage. This is called "Mitznefet" and that is Hebrew for "wrap around". That's exactly what the Mitznefet does, effectively breaking up the silhouette of the round helmet. We took a closer look at the Mitznefet from AGILITE.

This is what the shapeable helmet camouflage looks like in use with the IDF, with a Merkava tank in the background.

And soldiers of a special unit practicing.

But back to our piece from AGILITE: Here is the Mitznefet with a helmet underneath in the grass. The shape is not easily definable by our brains and the contour does not suggest a helmet underneath. Multicam is not the optimal color choice for green grass, but it still works.

The AGILITE Mitznefet is made of mesh fabric in Multicam. Our Mitznefet here has a diameter of about 70 cm when fully laid out.

The size adjustment is done with a round elastic band. There is also a hook included so that you don't lose the camouflage if you get caught on something.

So pull the elastic band together and pull it over the helmet, and your helmeted head is no longer recognizable as a soldier's head.

Here is the standard helmet of the Austrian Armed Forces in profile. No, the Ops Core helmet is not yet widespread in Austria. The shape is revealing when you raise your head above cover, despite the camouflage loops.

Here is the same helmet with the AGILITE Mitznefet. The camouflage effect by breaking the silhouette cannot be denied.

Here is the helmet frontally without the Mitznefet. In the header image you can see it with the camouflage cover.

The advantage of the Mitznefet is that it can be shaped by pulling it into a different form. Here rather normal, but as a "mushroom".

If you pull it in the middle, you can quickly realize a Trolls Cosplay. It looks really stupid, but still camouflages.

If the sun comes from the side, you can use the Mitznefet to create shade on your face. Very practical and stylish at the same time.

Now, let's test it on a modern OpsCore with all the bells and whistles attached.

The Mitznefet works perfectly even with night vision goggles and other attachments on the helmet. The camouflage effect is truly overwhelming. Thanks to the mesh fabric, even a VIP blink light on the helmet would still be functional and visible.

When using night vision goggles, the Mitznefet can be pulled forward, making the NVG less noticeable in profile.

Since the Mitznefet is only made of fabric, it does not get in the way when flipping up the NVGs. We are excited.

CONCLUSION: The Mitznefet may look modest, but it works better than anything we know. It fits on any helmet and greatly contributes to your camouflage. Ultimately, the goal is for the enemy to have a harder time recognizing you. In that regard, the Mitznefet is highly efficient, as quirky as it may look. We have fallen in love with this loose cover.

The AGILTE Mitznefet is available directly from AGILITE for 49 USD in original Multicam.
