The new AGILITE Modular Assault Pack III - AMAP III for short - is the next generation assault pack. Compared to the AMAP II - reviewed here on SPARTANAT - several changes have been made. AGILITE works closely with special forces from the Israeli, US, and other armies, taking their input into account. This is clearly noticeable with this backpack.
The AMAP III offers a pack volume of up to 18 liters plus an 8 liter Beavertail compartment. The entire pack is made of 500D Cordura and weighs around 1 kilogram when empty, which is remarkably lightweight.
The dimensions are H40 x W28 x D20 cm. The AMAP III is equipped with MOLLE loops on the sides and compression/pack straps.
The MOLLE loops can also be used to attach the G-Hooks of the Beavertail. There is also an additional strap near the back.
Most of the time, you will use the designated anchor points on the front. These can be found on the large MOLLE Velcro panel.
The use of G-Hooks is very intuitive and everything holds securely. The QASM quick release buckles are not included, but we will discuss them in detail later.
The Beavertail is primarily designed to hold your helmet when you're not wearing it. However, it can also accommodate small Pelicases or other equipment.
If you don't need the Beavertail, you can simply roll it up and attach it. This also exposes the lower MOLLE Velcro panel.
The MOLLE Velcro on the AMAP III is extremely durable, as it is backed with webbing. The construction is extremely interesting, with laser-cut material on the outside, Velcro in the middle, and webbing on the back, ensuring everything stays secure in harsh conditions.
The folded Beavertail can still be used as a small pocket with approximately 2 liters of volume. Very well thought out and elegantly resolved.
At the top, the AMAP III features a zippered admin pocket measuring approximately 20 x 18 cm, perfect for storing your smartphone, medical supplies, and identification.
A stable carrying handle should never be missing, as is the case with the AMAP III.
Under the carrying handle, there are two Velcro flaps with antenna openings into the main compartment. Very practical, the assault pack can also be used as a device bag for radio operators.
Thanks to the clamshell design, you can completely unfold the AMAP III. Inside, you will find plenty of loop Velcro that is eagerly awaiting all of your Velcro pouches.
On the right inside, the AMAP III is equipped with a small compartment for pens/glow sticks.
On the back, there is a zippered water bladder compartment with a matching hose port.
If you have only moderately loaded your AMAP III, you can keep it nice and thin with the compression straps. But there's also a special feature with these.
These are the two lower straps. They are equipped with quick-release buckle closures.
This allows you to choose whether they should run to the side or downwards. Very handy if you want to attach tripods or ground mats to the AMAP III.
Because you can also decide whether you prefer to attach them on the sides or on the underside horizontally. This feature may not sound particularly great at first, but it is invaluable in practice.
Now to the QASM buckle closures. The AMAP III is the only assault pack we know of that is capable of being equipped with placards or microrigs. These can have either G-hooks or buckle closures.
Unfortunately, we only have buckle closures and a micro rig on hand, which is now being integrated into the backpack and used as a magazine carrier.
Simply click and attach, and you have expanded your AMAP III with an "Assault Panel". According to Agilite, pretty much all placards on the market should fit. A really exciting idea to customize the Assault Pack for the mission.
We also like that the helmet can still be stored even when a placard is attached.
To ensure that the AMAP III is comfortable to wear, it is padded with "Triple Density Fusion Foam". Both the back and shoulder straps are comfortable for you.
A small chest strap helps to distribute the weight even better. The shoulder straps are naturally anatomically shaped. Overall, the AMAP III wears very well and comfortably.
The shoulder straps are connected to the AMAP III by a 25mm webbing strap.
This connection can be quickly released but offers a secure hold. The sewn strap hooks into the eyelet.
This is how the AMAP III looks without its shoulder straps. Why would you want to do this?
Because you can connect the AMAP III, just like its predecessor, directly to the K19 Plate Carrier. HERE is our review of the AGILITE K19 Plate Carrier on SPARTANAT.
This is the back of the K19 Plate Carrier and attaching the AMAP III to it is very simple. There is also an adapter from Agilite that allows you to attach the AMAP III to almost any plate carrier.
As mentioned, attaching it is very simple, just attach the AMAP III and then connect the compression straps to the buckles on the K19 Plate Carrier. Done.
This is the result. It holds up well with medium loads.
For heavy loads, it is recommended to ensure more support - with the velcro straps of the shoulder straps. These are threaded through the attachment points of the shoulder straps on the AMAP III.
This is what the complete symbiosis between AMAP III and K19 plate carrier looks like. A truly successful solution. Unfortunately, you can't reach it yourself without taking off the plate carrier. But why do you have comrades who come behind you and help. On the person, you can see the combo in the video.
CONCLUSION: Somebody thought something here. You can tell with the AMAP III that AGILITE listens to the feedback from the units. The improved AMAP III is a dream of an Assault Pack, which also works very well as an EDC backpack. It is quickly adapted to the situation and simply convinces with the many, fantastic detailed solutions. For functionality and workmanship, the AMAP III also has a great price.
