Without food, there is no fight. This fundamental truth is probably known to everyone, but what to eat in the field? Of course, you can rely on cans, EPAs, and MREs, but they're not really delicious in the long run. A very good and exciting alternative here is Adventure Menu from Czechia. They are supposed to be natural and healthy, we tested it out:

The meals are packed, like MREs, in a bag that can also be used for eating in emergencies. A main course weighs around 400g and provides about 550 to 600 kcal of energy.

The shelf life is stated as 3 years and without any chemical additives. To heat up the food, there are instructions on the back of the package describing three methods. The most exciting one is the "Flameless Heating" method, which we tried out immediately.

For this, you need the Zipperbag and a small or large Heater Ration. We used the small ration. By the way, the Zipperbag is reusable.

Everything is designed to be soldier-proof and described with pictures and text so that nothing can go wrong.

Once the food pouch, the Heater, and water are in the Zipperbag, you can start immediately. The bag inflates due to the steam. Caution, very hot!

At the top of the Zipperbag, there is a steam vent so that the bag doesn't burst. There is a burn risk here as well.

After about 12 minutes, everything should be nice and warm, according to the manufacturer. We encountered the same problem as with MREs. Unfortunately, it's not a "Fire and Forget" solution, you have to intervene a bit if the food is to be evenly heated. In other words, turn the food bag over halfway through. In the image above, you can see the contents of the bag beautifully arranged. Or something like that.

It's what's on the inside that counts. Here we devoured roast pork with sauerkraut and dumplings. Not as visually appealing as in the product photos, but let's let the taste decide.

The taste is really very good! No comparison to EPA or MRE. You can tell that really good ingredients were used here. Overall, everything was a bit sweet, but we'll blame that on Bohemian cuisine, which is known for not skimping on sugar.

Of course, there are also desserts, which we also tested. Today we're serving up a delicious bread pudding with apples and cinnamon.

We chose to heat it up in a pan. Works perfectly and is our personal recommendation. Again, not quite as visually appealing, but the taste is excellent. With 440 kcal, it's also a good source of energy.

For another meal, we devoured a deer ragout. This time we wanted to consume it unheated, which we did.

The eater is met with a similar view as with the other courses. We were more than impressed by the taste, even though we ate it cold straight from the bag.

CONCLUSION: Certainly, Adventure Menus are definitely worth it, but whether they are healthy, we cannot say. They are certainly a very good alternative to MREs, especially because of their much better taste. The noticeable downside is the significantly higher price and that all components must be bought separately. For some, however, this can also be an advantage, as you can really choose what you like.

Available either at 365+ or directly through Adventure Menu. Main courses cost between €7.95 and €10.95; desserts/breakfast €4.95, Heater Rations start from €1.60
