REVIEW: ACT in Black Amber Filter

04/10/2019By Redaktion

The night is green, at least when looking through a night vision device. Green is actually the best color for humans, as it allows us to perceive the most shades, but it can quickly tire the eyes. To counteract this, there are Amber Filters that shift the image into a more pleasant color range. We looked at the filter from ACT in Black. This is how it looks when the Amber Filter is attached to the eyepiece. Due to its design, your PVS 14 will be 3 mm longer as a result.

However, a Scopecover still fits easily. The transparent filter is not made of plastic like others, but of high-quality glass.

It screws tightly into place but can also be quickly removed if you need to attach something else, like a Smartphone Adapter.

But what does the Amber Filter actually do? In short, it shifts the light into an orange spectrum, as seen in the image. This is not meant to increase contrast like with sports glasses, but rather to make the green of the NVGs more pleasant for the eyes.

And this is how it looks for the user. On the left, the normal green, on the right, everything in a yellow-green tone through the filter. Overall, the image becomes slightly darker and sharper as a result.

Conclusion: For those who use their night vision device frequently, this filter really brings a lot, as you can look through it for longer without getting tired. The slightly yellowish image may seem strange at first, but once you get used to it, you won't want to go back. The Amber Filter is compatible with Mini-14, PVS-14, PVS-15, PVS-18, DTNVG, and anything using a PVS-14 eyepiece.

The Amber Filter is available directly from ACT in Black for 117.00€ excluding shipping costs.
