The British Challenger 3 main battle tanks - HERE our report on it - will be equipped with the active protection system Trophy (Active Protection System - APS) from Rafael. The selection is the result of a study conducted by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) on behalf of the British Ministry of Defence. The result is that the lighter Trophy variant (Trophy MV) is to be used on the Challenger 3.
Developed by Rafael in response to successful anti-tank attacks, the Trophy APS offers advanced, battle-proven protection against missile and rocket threats while simultaneously locating the origin of enemy fire for an immediate response. Trophy is the only fully integrated, battle-proven APS in the world and has been installed on the Merkava tanks of the Israeli Defense Forces since 2010, as well as on the Namer APCs. Trophy has also been delivered to four Abrams MBT brigades of the US Army and will soon be delivered to Germany for its Leopard MBTs.
Since its first deployment in 2011, Trophy has conducted numerous interception maneuvers without causing harm to crews or dismounted soldiers or damaging platforms. Trophy has accumulated over 1,000,000 operational hours, including 5,400 successful field tests, and is now under contract for series production of over 1,800 systems.
