France is arming itself with GLOCK 17 Gen5 pistols as its standard service weapon, only they call it PANG "Pistolet Automatique de Nouvelle Génération". In addition to the new pistol, there are also new DMR rifles - We reported on this - but today we want to focus on the pistol in detail.
This is what the PANG looks like. In the end, it's a Glock 17 Gen5 with a sand-colored frame and a loop for the lanyard. The grip width adapter with dovetail is attached in the picture. As of the fourth generation, the frames can be adjusted to fit the hand size.
Here is the PANG Glock 17 with the lanyard and without the grip plate.
The right side of the pistol. The ambidextrous slide catch lever is clearly visible. The magazine release lever can be easily reversed, as with all GLOCKs. Left-handed shooters will appreciate this.
A special feature of the PANG GLOCK 17 is the luminous rear sight. This, along with the luminous front sight, should make aiming at night easier. There are mixed opinions about the shape of the rear sight, but with practice, everyone should be able to hit their target.
Safety first. The PANG GLOCK 17 comes with a load indicator in the package, which clearly signals that the pistol is unloaded.
If you don't want to constantly hold the pistol, you need a holster for safe storage. The PANG GLOCK 17 comes with a sand-colored T-Series Level 3 holster - HERE in our review - from Blackhawk. Therefore, the French are the first army to have the new Blackhawk holster as the standard holster for their service pistol. Also interesting is that the holster was previously only available in black, so hopefully it will soon be available on the civilian market.
Thanks to quick-change accessories, the holster can also be mounted on a vest. Another interesting detail in the picture is that this is the PANG GLOCK 17 with a threaded barrel for a suppressor. Unfortunately, holstering with a mounted suppressor may be challenging, although we do not yet know which suppressor will be used.
Over the next three years, a total of 75,000 PANG GLOCK 17 pistols will be delivered to the French Army. The first pistols will be delivered in the coming months.
