Photo File: PVS-31 Real Deal versus Dummy

Yes, you're seeing double. At least two of the same night vision device. But one is just a hoax and can't do anything. We already introduced you to this dummy in detail, but now we want to see how well it compares to the real PVS-31. Let's get started.

At first glance, without looking through the device, it's hard to say which one is the real one and which is the non-functional dummy.

A top-down view also helps little. Both devices have nearly identical dimensions. The dummy is, of course, much lighter than the original. But which one is the real one?

Only looking through the lens brings certainty: the left PVS-31 is the one that lets you see in the dark. This was also the case with the previous images. Overall, the optical differences between the two are very minimal.

Even the eyepiece has been replicated very precisely. The original has high-quality glass with a fixed diopter adjustment, while the fake has only a plastic disc.

Both devices are nearly identical in size. The power connector reveals which one is the original.

The surface texture of the plastic is almost the same on both. The hinges have been replicated in great detail.

Also, the battery caps and the power button and brightness adjuster are very detailed. It's only when you touch them that the wheat separates from the chaff.

There are hardly any differences at the bottom between the two. The correct markings on the dummy are based on an aftermarket kit for perfectionists.

There are obvious differences in the power cable, but few with the battery pack - HERE is the original in the REVIEW - again few.

When inserted, the difference is less noticeable. The Chinese really did a good job of replicating it.

CONCLUSION: The optical differences between the two are minimal and have surprised us. We don't need to talk about functionality, but the dummy is supposed to look like the real thing, and it definitely does that very well. Why would you need a dummy like this? To look good with it or simply as a display tool in training or photoshoots, as the dummy is much cheaper than the original PVS-31.

You can get the FMA AN/PVS-31 Dummy at AIRSOFTZONE for 69.90 euros. The real PVS-31 is available at IEA Mil-Optics - exclusively for authorities.
