Armored grenadiers attack - Marder versus Puma

10/14/2020By Redaktion

With the Panzergrenadier system, consisting of the PUMA armored personnel carrier and the Future Infantryman - Extended System (IdZ-ES) at the VJTF 2023 stand, Rheinmetall and KMW offer the world's most advanced system for mounted and dismounted combat.

The superior combat capability of the PUMA infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) is guaranteed by its fully stabilized 30mm weapon system and the unparalleled level of protection. For the first time in the German Army, soldiers are digitally connected to the armored personnel carrier via a secure data link, forming a synchronized unit. Both voice and data can be transmitted without delay, minimizing the margin for error. HERE is the Bundeswehr video presenting the Future Infantryman system.

The German procurement projects 2nd lot PUMA with 228 IFVs, as well as the upgrading of the already delivered 350 PUMA IFVs to the level of the 41 VJTF PUMA already ordered, secure thousands of jobs across Germany from welders to engineers in key technology areas (armored vehicles, protection, sensors, electronic warfare). At the same time, the Panzergrenadier troops receive their full equipment and definitively phase out the MARDER IFV commissioned in 1969 or maybe not.
